A naked with 135 hp can spend a surprising share of its life at walking pace. Commutes, traffic queues, the ride across town to meet someone: the 820R does all of it, and in all of it the air it breathes is some of the dirtiest a motorcycle meets, loaded with fine particles from brakes, tyres and exhausts. That is the air this mat is built for: it surrenders flow only where the engine makes its peak, far up at 12,000 rpm, and holds back much more of what city traffic leaves behind.

What the lower flow costs on this engine
Flow capacity only matters when the engine demands it, and a triple making its peak at 12,000 rpm demands the most at a point most road riding never reaches. Below that point the P14's rating is ample; above it, on a clear road and wide open, the P08's 5,050 is the better match. That is the whole trade in two sentences. Nor is the mat a tuning part: a filter swapped into a standard airbox leaves a standard 820R exactly as strong as before.
Who should choose the P08 instead
Riders who use the 820R the way its engine invites — hard and high in the rev range, on open roads or at the occasional track day — are better served by the standard weave. So are owners whose roads are clean and whose air is clear. The P14 is for the rider whose everyday air is genuinely dirty: heavy traffic, dusty rural roads, long summer trips through road works. Priced at a little under four fifths of the P08, it earns that price only for riders who recognise themselves in that description.
Care and cleaning
Most of a season's city grime leaves PM291P14 when compressed air is directed at its clean side and moved outwards across the mat. A heavier load calls for lukewarm water and a little mild detergent, then rinsing until nothing cloudy runs off. Let it air-dry at room temperature, keep it away from heat guns, radiators and open flames, and fit it back only once it is completely dry, with nothing applied.
