Fit this element to a Rush and the motorcycle will sound exactly as it did the day before. An airbox is a tuned, sealed volume, and R189S F1-85-SBK changes what sits inside it without touching the shell, the mouth or the route the air takes to reach either. Induction noise belongs to those and not to the weave. On a machine built to be dramatic, that is the first thing to say, because a part labelled racing collects expectations it never agreed to.
Key Features
- Racing polyester at an 85 µm aperture, rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec
- Held in a framed WorldSBK assembly, supplied complete
- Retention measured at 95.22 per cent of 100-micron particles
- Dry throughout its service life; no oil when new, none after any wash
- Occupies the standard airbox with no modification and no calibration change
- Regenerated with air rather than replaced, and guaranteed for two years
The things that stay exactly as they were
The sound is one. The look with the bodywork on is another, since nothing about this part is visible once the airbox is closed. The fuelling is a third: no calibration is altered and the engine management is told nothing it has to learn. At the small throttle openings that make up most riding, the element is nowhere near the limiting item, so the way the Rush pulls away from a junction is unchanged as well. And the power belongs on this list too, because an insert filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger.
Where the differences actually live
Three places, none of them the saddle. On the specification sheet, where a rated throughput of 15,000 l/m²/sec against the standard cloth's figure describes headroom that is only ever drawn on with the throttle against its stop. In the workshop, where a service becomes a wash and a wait rather than an order and a wait. And in the ownership record, where the intake stops being a recurring purchase. Those are small, real and entirely undramatic — which for a motorcycle chosen largely for drama is an honest thing to know in advance.
Care and cleaning
Begin with the air line at the clean face, always blowing outward so the load exits by the way it came in. If the weave still looks charged, tepid water and a mild washing-up liquid will lift what remains; rinse until the water coming through is clear of colour. The drying step is where filters are lost when someone is in a hurry: open air only, never a hot air blower, a radiator or a flame, because heat is what polyester will not survive. The element goes back into the housing dry, with nothing wiped or sprayed on it. See the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the MV Agusta Rush 1000 built from 2020 to 2026, the newest machine on a fitment list of eight. The others are the Brutale Oro and Brutale RR, and the F4, F4R, F4RR, F4RC and F4RC LH from 2013 onward.
