Honda has been building the CB1300F since 2003. Twenty-three model years is a long time for one motorcycle, with a side effect nobody plans for: a bike in production that long collects service parts from every direction. Boxed and unboxed, branded and anonymous, all cut to drop into the same airbox. Fitting, though, is the least interesting thing a filter can do. What separates one panel from the next is the medium — what it is made of, how fine it is, how much air it will pass — and that is something you should be able to read, not guess from a photograph.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in a single dry layer; no oil is used on it, so nothing can be carried further into the intake
- Filtration of 80 µm with a rated flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec — Sprint Filter's standard medium for road and track
- Threads from ø 22 microns upward, with the openings created by the weave rather than pressed fibre
- Around twice the working surface of most performance elements of the same size
- Goes into the series airbox in place of the paper panel; no housing work and no remapping involved
- Washable, reusable and covered by a two-year Sprint Filter guarantee
Numbers instead of adjectives
Sprint Filter publishes what the P08 does, which makes it checkable. In comparison testing the medium held back 93.13 per cent of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 per cent for a four-layer oil-soaked cotton element. Its 80 µm rating sits next to a flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec, and the two belong together: a finer cloth retains more and passes less, a coarser one does the reverse. That is a trade, not a ranking. The P08 sits where a road-registered CB1300F actually operates, which is why it is the standard choice rather than the finest medium in the range or the freest flowing.
What you inherit when you buy one used
Most CB1300Fs on the road have had more than one owner, and the airbox is where those choices accumulate. Whatever panel is in there now was somebody's decision, made for reasons you will never learn. Replacing it is the point where that ends. From then on the element in the housing is a known quantity with a specification attached, and each service is an inspection of the same piece rather than fresh trust in whatever a counter had in stock. That is worth as much on a machine from 2004 as on one from last year.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does most of the work on the CM101S: hold it to the clean side and blow outwards, so the dust leaves by the face it settled on. When air alone is not enough, lukewarm water and mild washing-up detergent will do it, then rinse until the water comes away clean. Let it dry on its own in moving air. Heat destroys this medium, so keep it away from hot air guns, radiators and flames, and refit it dry and untreated. The maintenance instructions are in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the Honda CB1300F built from 2003 to 2026. Two further machines take the same element: the air-cooled CB1100 of 2013 to 2017 and the CB1300 Super Four of 2001 to 2005, three in total. See the Fitment tab.
