DescriptionThe whole story

Almost half the weight, in twenty minutes. The Ténéré 700's standard silencer weighs 4.7 kg — a substantial steel unit on a motorcycle built around being light — and this titanium replacement weighs 2.4.

Key Features

  • 2.4 kg against the standard 4.7 kg: 2.3 kg and 48.9 per cent less
  • Titanium muffler outer sleeve and end cap
  • 2.3 PS more at 8,850 rpm, peak output rising from 70.0 to 72.4 PS
  • Peak torque up from 65.2 to 66.8 Nm
  • Twenty minutes to fit, removable noise insert supplied
  • EC and ECE type approved

Weight Is the Whole Argument on a T7

The Ténéré 700 exists because Yamaha refused to make it heavy. 204 kg wet, no electronic suspension, minimal rider aids — the entire concept is a big trail bike that a rider can pick up alone.

2.3 kg from the highest and furthest-back point is the largest single reduction available on the motorcycle without touching the wheels or the exhaust headers. On a bike that will be dropped in sand and gravel by people riding it as intended, that is not an abstraction.

A Note on the Torque Figure

Peak torque rises from 65.2 to 66.8 Nm. Akrapovic's technical data also records a larger gain, but places it at 600 rpm — below the engine's idle speed, which makes the figure unusable. Rather than quote a number that cannot be right, this page reports the peak values and the power gain at 8,850 rpm.

That is the same policy applied elsewhere in this catalogue when manufacturer data is internally inconsistent: report what holds up, say nothing about what does not.

Which Ténéré 700

Yamaha revised the T7 for 2021 with a new exhaust route, and again in 2025. This part covers the first two model years, 2019 and 2020. For the 2019 to 2024 machines including the World Raid, S-Y7SO5-HGJT is the corresponding part — check the first registration date rather than the model name.

Twenty Minutes, and Nothing in the Way

The Ténéré 700 carries its silencer high on the right with nothing over it — no fairing, no pannier rail on a standard bike, no tail unit in the path. Two clamps and a hanger, and the standard unit is off.

The header, the catalytic converter and the engine management stay untouched, no remapping is required, and the original silencer goes back on just as quickly. On a machine that gets modified and un-modified by owners who ride it hard, that reversibility matters.

A Titanium End Cap, Not Carbon

Both the outer sleeve and the end cap are titanium on this system. Carbon would have saved a little more weight, but the end cap on a T7 is the part that meets the ground first in a slow fall on a trail — and titanium bends where carbon cracks.

Fitment and Compatibility

S-Y7SO2-HFTT covers the Yamaha Ténéré 700 from model year 2019 through 2020.

Road Approval

EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union.
