DescriptionThe whole story▼

Some of the most tiring riding on a Tiger 800 XC happens at walking pace: a rocky climb, a rutted drop towards a ford, a stretch of forest track where the bike picks its way between roots. Slow and steady is the whole point there, and it is mostly the clutch that keeps things steady. The Accossato EST333P is a clutch lever for the XC of 2015 to 2018, machined from aluminium and adjustable in reach, so that the left hand can hold the bite point for as long as the ground demands.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the Tiger 800 XC, model years 2015 to 2018
  • Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
  • Reach adjustment near the pivot
  • Short, standard (roughly 138 mm) and long blades, depending on colour
  • Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
  • Hub in black; blade black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
  • Fixed blade without a hinge
  • Sold for the track, since no German ABE is documented

Construction and Material Quality

The EST333P is a fixed lever, made from one piece of aluminium that is machined to shape and then anodised. Its black hub holds the pivot and the adjuster, and the blade, in the colour you choose, runs from there to the tip with no joint in between. On rough ground that gives the fingers a solid, unchanging surface to work against, since nothing can rattle or fold. The anodised finish is hard enough to cope with the dust and spray of a day on the trails, and a rinse with clean water is all it needs afterwards.

Clutch Against the Rear Brake

Riders who have done an off-road course will know the technique. At very low speed, keep the engine turning a little above idle, slip the clutch to meter the drive, and drag the rear brake lightly against it. The two forces hold each other in balance, so the bike creeps forward steadily instead of lurching from one burst of drive to the next, and it stays upright more easily at walking pace. On the Tiger 800 XC this can go on for minutes at a time, which is a long time to hold a clutch lever halfway. If the blade sits too far out, the fingers tire and the drive starts to surge. Set the reach so that two fingers hold the bite point comfortably while the others keep a firm grip on the bar, whether you are seated or standing on the pegs. The short blade suits this two-finger style; the long one, with its extra leverage, is the alternative for riders who prefer to use the whole hand.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato gives the EST333P for the Tiger 800 XC from 2015 to 2018; the first-generation XC of 2011 to 2014 is not covered by this clutch lever. On the brake side, the EDF014 fits both generations, from 2011 to 2018. The XCx, the better-equipped sister model, has a listing of its own.

Road Approval

No German ABE exists in the documentation for this clutch lever. It is sold for use on closed tracks.
