DescriptionThe whole story▼
The clutch of the CBR500R is worked by a cable, and the feel at the lever depends as much on that cable as on the lever itself. A cable that is dry, kinked or starting to fray makes the pull heavy and the take-up vague, and no lever can hide that. Accossato's ESH250 is a clutch lever machined from aluminium for the CBR500R of 2013 to 2021, with an adjustable reach; fitting it is also a good moment to look at what the lever is connected to.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Honda CBR500R, 2013 to 2021
- Fits in place of the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Long blade for a lighter pull in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in every colour
- Milled aluminium, anodised; black hub
- No folding joint
- Sold for track use, no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
Milled from solid aluminium and anodised afterwards, the ESH250 pairs a black hub with a blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. The pivot and the reach adjuster both live in the hub, which is why it stays black whatever colour you pick. The blade itself is rigid and made in one piece, with no hinge that could add slack between your fingers and the cable. Accossato began in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, as a builder of competition motorcycles.
A Cable Worth Looking After
A clutch cable wears where it bends and where it enters the lever. Water and road grime work their way into the outer sleeve over a winter, the inner wire dries out, and the pull becomes stiffer and less smooth, often so gradually that the rider only notices when a new lever is fitted and the clutch still feels heavy. When you change to the ESH250, look at the nipple end of the cable for broken strands, follow the cable along its route to make sure it is not kinked or pinched by the steering at full lock, and lubricate it if your workshop manual calls for it. Then set the reach of the lever, and after that check the free play as Honda specifies. On a CBR500R that is ridden all year, the cable deserves a look every season, since a sticking cable can keep the clutch from engaging fully. With the cable in order, the adjustable reach and the choice of a short, standard or long blade can do their part, and the long blade gives the lightest pull of the three.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESH250 is listed by Accossato for the CBR500R from 2013 to 2021 and mounts where the original clutch lever was. For the brake side of those bikes, the EDF025 is available in the same colours. Owners of a 2022 to 2024 CBR500R will find the EDF018 brake lever listed for their bike, but no clutch lever in Accossato's list.
Road Approval
The ESH250 comes without a documented German ABE; for that reason we sell it for track riding.
