DescriptionThe whole story▼
Plenty of riders come to the first-generation CB1000R from a twin, and the clutch is where they notice the change first. The Honda's four-cylinder engine, developed from the Fireblade, delivers its pull smoothly and without the pulses of a big twin, and it rewards a different way of letting the lever out. Accossato's ESH033, machined from aluminium and adjustable for reach, takes over from the stock clutch lever on the CB1000R and CB1000RA of 2008 to 2016.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the first-generation Honda CB1000R, 2008 to 2016
- Takes the place of the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Adjustable distance between blade and grip
- Long blade for a lighter pull, available in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard length approximately 138 mm, short blade also made
- Anodised aluminium with a black hub
- Rigid, non-folding design
- No documented German ABE: for the track
Construction and Material Quality
The ESH033 starts as a block of aluminium and is shaped by CNC machining, then anodised in two tones. Black is reserved for the hub, where the pivot and the reach adjustment sit; the blade takes the colour you order. Because there is no folding joint, the whole lever acts as one stiff arm, and the point at which the clutch starts to bite stays in the same place in its travel from one ride to the next. The anodised layer is part of the metal itself, so there is no paint to wear through where your fingers rest.
Coming From a Twin
A big twin can often be coaxed away from little more than idle, its pulses shoving the bike forward even if the lever comes out quickly. The CB1000R's four works differently. It spins up evenly, likes a few more revs at the moment of pulling away, and responds to a clutch that is released in one unhurried movement rather than dropped. Riders fresh from a twin sometimes stall it at the first junctions, or overcompensate with too many revs and a jerky start. Both habits fade quickly once the friction zone sits where your fingers can hold it with ease. Use the adjuster to bring the blade to a point where the bite comes with your fingers still comfortably curled, then practise a few starts in a quiet street, holding a steady trickle of throttle while the lever travels out. The long blade reduces the effort of holding the clutch at the bite point, which helps while the new rhythm settles in.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list, the ESH033 covers the CB1000R of 2008 to 2016; it replaces the lever at the original clutch mounting. The matching brake lever for the same bikes is Accossato's EDF033, made in the same colours with the same black hub, so a CB1000R can be finished with a pair. Short blades are available in blue, gold, green, orange and silver; black and red come only in the standard length.
Road Approval
This clutch lever has no documented German ABE, which is why we sell it for circuit use.
