DescriptionThe whole story▼
Three point three newton metres at 2,350 rpm. On a 1,200 cc parallel twin that is just above idle, and it is the single most useful place on the whole curve for a bike ridden in town and on back roads. The Akrapovic Slip-On Line (Titanium) S-T12SO2-HCQTBL delivers it, in black-coated titanium, on the Triumph Speed Twin and Thruxton 1200.
Key Features
- 3.31 Nm more torque at 2,350 rpm — the gain sits barely off idle, where a big-bore twin is actually used
- Peak torque rises from 103.7 Nm to 105.5 Nm and peak power from 90.2 PS to 91.9 PS
- 4.8 kg against the standard 5.9 kg: 1.1 kg and 18.6 per cent less across the pair
- Titanium muffler outer sleeves in a black coating, which suits the dark-finish versions of both machines
- EC and ECE type approved with the certificates supplied
- Noise insert included; installation about an hour with no remapping
- Covers the Speed Twin 1200 and both the Thruxton 1200 and 1200 R
Torque Where a Modern Classic Lives
Triumph builds this engine for its bottom end, and Akrapovic's measurement reflects that: the largest gain by far arrives at 2,350 rpm rather than anywhere near the power peak. On a Thruxton pulling out of a village or a Speed Twin short-shifting through town, that is the number that changes the ride.
The black coating is not only cosmetic. On a bike where the silencers sit low and in the spray from the rear wheel, a coated titanium sleeve keeps its finish where a bare one discolours around the clamp.
One Approval Restriction
Akrapovic states explicitly that the EC and ECE type approval is not valid on the Thruxton RS. The exhaust fits that machine mechanically and is sold for the Thruxton family, but on an RS it is not a type-approved replacement silencer. Owners of the RS should treat it accordingly and clarify the position before riding it on the road.
Speed Twin and Thruxton Sit Differently
Both run Triumph's 1,200 cc high-power twin, but they are aimed at opposite ends of the same idea. The Speed Twin is an upright roadster with a wide bar and mid-set pegs; the Thruxton 1200 is a café racer with clip-ons, rearsets and, on the R, Öhlins and Brembo. The silencer position and mounting are shared, so one pair of black-coated units serves both.
Installation is quoted at 60 minutes, which is longer than a single-silencer bike because there are two of them and the right-hand unit sits behind the rearset hanger on a Thruxton. No remapping is required on either machine.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-T12SO2-HCQTBL covers the Triumph Speed Twin 1200 from model year 2019 through 2020 and the Thruxton 1200 and 1200 R from 2016 through 2020. Both silencers are supplied; the system connects to the original headers.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, certificates supplied and downloadable here — with the exception of the Thruxton RS noted above. On the Speed Twin, Thruxton 1200 and Thruxton 1200 R the system is a legal road part in the European Union.
