DescriptionThe whole story▼
One part number, four motorcycles. Yamaha's 689 cc CP2 twin sits in the MT-07, the XSR 700, the Tracer 700 and the FZ-07, and this Akrapovic Racing Line covers all of them — a type-approved complete system on a bike class where most full systems give up the paperwork.
Key Features
- Complete system: new-shape muffler in lightweight high-grade titanium, headers in stainless steel, handmade carbon fibre end cap
- 5.31 kg against the standard 7.21 kg: 1.9 kg and 26.4 per cent less
- Covers the MT-07, FZ-07, XSR 700 with XTribute and the Tracer 700 including the GT
- EC and ECE type approved — unusual for a full system on a middleweight twin
- 0.9 PS at 8,200 rpm and 0.8 Nm at 5,500 rpm, with improved throttle response across the range
- No remapping required and straightforward to fit
- Deeper, sportier note from the 270-degree crank
One Condition on the Approval
Akrapovic states that the EC type approval is only valid when the catalytic converter is installed. Remove the converter and the certificate no longer covers the system. On a bike that will often be bought second-hand with unknown history, that is worth checking before an inspection.
What a Full System Gives on a 689
The measured power gain is small — 0.9 PS on a 69 PS engine — and it is stated as measured. What a complete system does on this platform is remove 1.9 kg and change the character: the standard MT-07 exhaust is a large under-engine box that flattens the CP2's uneven pulse almost completely, and replacing headers and muffler together is the only way to get it back while staying legal.
The muffler shape is new for this system rather than carried over, and the end cap is hand-laid carbon fibre.
Why This Part Stops at 2020
Yamaha revised the MT-07 and the XSR 700 for 2021 to meet Euro 5, and the change was not cosmetic: new headers, a different catalytic converter position and a revised exhaust route. A system built for the 2014 to 2020 bikes does not transfer, and this one does not claim to.
Inside that window the family is consistent. The MT-07, the XSR 700 and the Tracer 700 share the 689 cc CP2 twin and the same exhaust geometry, and Akrapovic measured this system on a 2016 MT-07. No remapping is required, and no removable noise insert is supplied.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y7R5-HEGEH covers the Yamaha MT-07 and FZ-07 from model year 2014, the Tracer 700 and GT from 2016 and the XSR 700 and XTribute from 2016, all through 2020. Later machines use different systems. Installation is quoted at around 45 minutes.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, certificates supplied and downloadable here — valid, as noted above, with the catalytic converter in place.
