DescriptionThe whole story▼
One system, three motorcycles. Yamaha builds the YZ250F for motocross, the YZ250FX for cross-country and the WR250F for enduro around the same 250 single, and Akrapovic covers all three with this part number.
Key Features
- Titanium complete system for the 2024 to 2026 250 Yamahas
- 3.39 kg instead of 4.22 kg — 0.83 kg less
- 38.7 PS at 12,500 rpm against 38.2 standard
- Torque 24.7 Nm, up from 24.5
- Fits YZ250F, YZ250FX and WR250F alike
Three bikes, one engine
The differences between the three are gearing, suspension, a kickstand and lighting — not the engine or the exhaust routing. That is why one system serves all three, and why a rider moving from a YZ to a WR does not need a second pipe.
Yamaha's reversed-cylinder design puts the intake at the front and the exhaust at the back, which gives the header a longer, straighter run than on a conventional layout. Akrapovic works with that rather than against it.
What 830 grams does on a 250 enduro
An enduro rider picks the bike up more often than a motocross rider does. Under 0.9 kg sounds modest until it is being lifted out of a ditch for the fourth time in a lap, and the mass is coming off the top and the side rather than the middle.
The power gain is half a horsepower. Akrapovic does not pretend otherwise, and neither do we — the case for this system is weight and response, not a dyno chart.
Not for the road
Closed course competition only, no EC or ECE approval. A WR250F is road-registerable in some markets in standard trim; this system removes that basis. Fitting it makes the bike a competition machine.
Enduro and motocross ask different things
A WR250F spends hours at part throttle in the woods; a YZ250F spends thirty minutes at full noise on a groomed track. The same exhaust serves both because the engine is the same, but the wear pattern is not: an enduro bike collects mud in the header shielding and a motocross bike collects impacts.
If the bike is used in the woods, the thing worth checking after each ride is the header where it passes the frame — that is where packed mud holds heat and where a titanium wall will discolour first.
How Akrapovic arrives at its figures
Akrapovic measures on its own computer-controlled chassis dynamometers, standard bike against modified, same day, same conditions. That is why the gains published across this catalogue look modest compared with what some manufacturers claim: the comparison is honest and the baseline is a real standard motorcycle rather than a worn one.
It also means the figures are specific to the bike measured. A machine with a different air filter, a race map or a worn engine will not repeat them exactly, and Akrapovic does not pretend otherwise.
Three bikes, one order
Because the system covers the YZ250F, the YZ250FX and the WR250F, a workshop that runs more than one of them stocks a single part number. For a club team that is a real simplification.
Article number
Akrapovic lists this system as S-Y2MET17-FDHLTA for model years 2024 to 2026. Earlier 250 Yamahas take S-Y2MET15-CIBNTA (2019–2020) or S-Y2MET14-CIBNTA (2014–2018).
