DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Niken shares its basic idea, two leaning wheels at the front, with Yamaha's three-wheeled Tricity scooters, and some riders arrive at it from exactly that direction. For them the biggest change is not the size of the machine but the lever under the left hand: on a scooter it works a brake, on the Niken it works a clutch. The Accossato ESY688 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the Niken of 2019 and 2020, with a reach adjuster that makes the clutch easier to find and control while old habits are replaced.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha Niken, 2019 to 2020
- Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Standard length about 138 mm; long blade for a lighter pull in four colours
- Anodised aluminium, CNC-machined
- Black hub; blade in black, silver, red, blue, gold, green or orange
- Fixed lever without a folding joint
- In its own Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the ESY688 from aluminium and anodises it afterwards. Where the lever meets the bike, at the hub with its pivot and adjuster, the finish is always black. The blade, the part your fingers touch, is anodised in the colour of your choice. There is no joint in between: the ESY688 is a rigid lever made in one continuous piece, so the travel you feel is the travel of the clutch and nothing else. Anodised aluminium also copes well with constant handling, since the coloured layer is part of the metal rather than a coating on it.
Coming From a Scooter
Riders who move from a scooter to a geared motorcycle often describe the same first days. The left hand wants to brake, the right foot forgets that it has a pedal to work, and pulling away involves a sequence of movements that has to be learned from scratch. The clutch lever is the centre of that sequence, and a lever within easy reach shortens the learning process. Set the ESY688 close enough that your fingers can rest on it at every stop, so that pulling it in becomes a reflex instead of a search. The long blade lowers the effort, which helps while the hand is still getting used to holding the clutch at traffic lights. Then practise the friction point somewhere quiet: roll forward using only the clutch, stop with the brakes, and repeat until the left hand works without conscious thought. After a few weeks the lever is simply where your fingers expect it to be, and the Niken feels like any other motorcycle to operate, however unlike one it looks.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESY688 for the Niken, model code MXT 850, from 2019 to 2020. It takes the place of the original clutch lever at Yamaha's mounting. On the right of the bar, the EDF016 brake lever is listed for the same Niken years, so the pair can be ordered in one colour. Model years of the Niken outside 2019 and 2020 are not covered by this listing.
Road Approval
This clutch lever is sold for circuit use, because a German ABE is not documented for it.
Scope of Delivery
