DescriptionThe whole story▼

With the R 1200 RS, BMW revived a badge that goes back to the R 100 RS of 1976: a boxer with a fairing, built to cover distance quickly. The RS of 2015 pairs the liquid-cooled engine with a sportier riding position than the RT, and some owners who spend long days on it fit risers to sit a little more upright. Any such change moves the hand relative to the brake lever. The EDB001 from Accossato is an adjustable, machined aluminium brake lever listed for the BMW R 1200 RS of 2015 to 2018.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the BMW R 1200 RS, model years 2015 to 2018
  • Uses the original BMW master cylinder
  • Reach adjuster positioned by the pivot
  • Standard blade about 138 mm long, plus short and long versions
  • Machined aluminium with an anodised finish
  • Black hub; blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
  • Fixed lever, one piece from hub to tip
  • No German ABE documented; for use on track

Construction and Material Quality

The EDB001 is produced by machining solid aluminium on CNC equipment and anodising the result. Working this way gives crisp edges and a uniform section along the blade, with no seams or casting marks. The hub is anodised black on every lever and holds the reach adjuster; the blade takes the colour. Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 are where Accossato gathered its experience with brake discs, and the lever shares that preference for rigid, direct parts: there is no folding joint anywhere in it.

Risers and a More Upright RS

Raising or pulling back the bars changes more than the riding position. The wrist sits higher, the fingers approach the brake lever from a different direction, and a lever that suited the standard setup can suddenly feel too far away or too close. The same happens, to a smaller degree, when you change to a different pair of grips or a thicker set of gloves for touring.

The reach adjuster lets you restore the relationship between hand and lever after such a change. Sit in your new riding position on the R 1200 RS, relax the hand on the grip and move the blade until the fingers meet it at the first joint. After any bar change, also check that the lever can be pulled fully at both ends of the steering lock without touching the fairing or the tank.

Fitment and Compatibility

The years Accossato gives for the EDB001 on the R 1200 RS are 2015 to 2018. A second brake lever is on the list for the RS, the EDB077 for 2015 to 2019, so a comparison with the product photos is worthwhile before ordering. For the clutch side of the R 1200 RS, Accossato names the ESB002 for 2015 to 2019.

Road Approval

No documentation of a German ABE exists for the EDB001; it is therefore supplied for circuit use.
