On a long ride the maintenance does not wait until you are home; it happens wherever you happen to be that evening. That is the light in which the finest grade Sprint Filter makes should be judged for a Himalayan 452, because what it really asks for is not money or effort but a place in the plan. Seven microns hold back more, and a material that holds back more fills sooner under the same air. The CM274T12 therefore comes with a schedule attached, and the schedule is set by the ground you have crossed rather than by the reading on the odometer.
Key Features
- Polyester special nonwoven at 7 µm, the finest grade in the Sprint Filter range
- Rated 560 l/m²/sec, where the standard weave for this airbox is rated 5,050
- Dry from new and dry after every wash — no oil to carry, dose, or spill on a trip
- Roughly twice the filtering surface of conventional performance elements, in the series box
- Direct replacement in the standard airbox: nothing cut, nothing moved, no remapping
- Serviced and refitted instead of replaced, with two years of warranty from purchase
Service that travels with the bike
A washable element changes the logistics of a long journey more than it changes the motorcycle. There is no consumable to source in a town that has never heard of the model, no spare panel taking up pannier space, and no bottle of anything to dose by eye at the roadside. What there is instead is a job that wants doing more often than the book suggests, with air if air can be found and with water and patience if it cannot. Plan the stops where that is possible, and the finest grade is a reasonable travelling companion; plan nothing, and it is simply a restriction being carried around.
Where the trade earns its keep
Seven microns are drawn for air in which suspended dust is the normal state of affairs: dry tracks, deep sand, the plume of the vehicle ahead, day after day. In that air the reduced flow is a fair price, and the mat is doing precisely what it was made to do. On tarmac the same panel is a cost with no matching benefit, which is why finer should be read as a trade and never as a ranking. It is not a power part under any conditions either — a drop-in element does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger, and this is the most restrictive element the catalogue offers for this box.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air on the clean side, worked outwards, so that what the mat caught leaves the way it came. Tepid water and a mild detergent deal with anything greasy that air will not lift, rinsed until the water runs clear. Then the element dries in open, room-temperature air and by no other means: no flame, no oven, no heat gun, because heat ends this material silently. Refit it dry and untreated. The cleaning sheet for the CM274T12 is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the Royal Enfield Himalayan 452 of 2024 to 2026 — one machine on this code. The standard and racing grades of the family also cover the Guerrilla 450, and the 14-micron grade is listed for the Guerrilla alone. Check the Fitment tab before ordering.
