Small motorcycles end up on small circuits. A Grom is rarely seen on a full-size racetrack; it turns up at kart circuits, on car-park courses marked out with cones, in the paddock behind somebody else's race weekend. Those surfaces are swept rather than cleaned: sand blows in at the edges, the run-off is loose grit, a fine rubber dust hangs over the place from one session to the next. Track work usually argues for more airflow. Here it argues for the opposite, which is what the Sprint Filter P14 is — a dry non-woven medium filtering at 14 microns, listed for dusty air rather than for volume.
Key Features
- A dry non-woven mat rather than a weave, run without oil from first fitting to last
- Filtration at 14 microns, with a rated throughput of 1,800 litres per square metre per second
- Roughly twice the working surface a comparable performance element puts into the intake
- Fits the 2021-on airbox where the paper panel sat, nothing trimmed and no fuelling changes
- Cleaned with air and put back rather than thrown away, for as long as the machine is ridden
- Covered by Sprint Filter for two years, counted from the purchase
The circuits a 125 actually visits
A grid of small machines on a short kart circuit does something a few big bikes on a long lap never do: it keeps the same few hundred metres of surface under tyres almost continuously. Whatever lies there is lifted again before it has settled. The coarse part drops back within a few metres; the fine part stays up at intake height for a whole session, and that is the part a wide weave hands straight through. Paddock hours count too, spent idling in the same air.
Flow this engine cannot spend
The media sort themselves along one line: the tighter the medium, the more it retains and the less it passes. The P08 weave is rated at 80 microns and 5,050 litres per square metre per second, this P14 at 14 microns and 1,800, the T12 at 7 and 560. That is a trade, not a ladder, and what it costs depends on the engine. A 125 built to a licence class answers quickly: displacement and the rev ceiling fix how much air the motor can ever draw, and that sits below what the standard box supplies. The headroom given away here was never being called on. Adding power is not part of it: no bolt-in element does that to a standard machine, and a 125 held to its output by design least of all.
Care and cleaning
Nothing in the process involves oil. Compressed air is the routine: work it across the clean face so the dust leaves by the route it arrived. A hard weekend justifies more — lukewarm water, a little mild detergent, rinsed until it runs clear. Drying belongs to moving air and nothing else, since a heat gun or a flame will finish the medium off, and the SM224P14 goes back only when it is dry through. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Honda Grom built from 2021 to 2026. The same element covers the MSX125 of those years, this machine under Honda's other badge, so two entries stand against a single airbox. Both are shown in the Fitment tab.
