Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 Air Filter for Racing – Royal Enfield Classic 500 (2009–2020) CM195S F1-85

A fitment list is drawn around a housing, not around an intention. This racing element appears under the Classic 500 because the Classic 500 shares an airbox with three other Royal Enfields, and the identical list of four machines appears under all three media for that box. Nothing in the catalog recommends the CM195S F1-85 for a motorcycle that left production in 2020 — the entry only says it fits. What it is for has to come from the use, and for most Classic 500s the answer will be that it is not needed.

All three media for this box carry the same four machines, so the catalog offers no guidance at model level at all; the differentiation lives entirely in the medium. Read that way, the three entries describe three conditions — dust, ordinary road and track use, and racing. A Classic 500 in normal service meets the middle description, which is why the 80 µm P08 is the default answer here and why the racing cloth needs a reason before it is ordered.

The reason it usually is not

This element costs about three and a third times what the standard P08 does for the same box, and the flow it buys only matters when an engine asks for air at a rate a series 500 never reaches. It also cannot do the thing people most often hope for: a drop-in filter does not make a standard motorcycle noticeably stronger. On a machine of this age the sum is better spent on the intake it actually has — a clean, washable standard weave, inspected whenever the box is open anyway.

Care and cleaning

Whichever medium ends up in the box, the routine is identical. Air line on the clean face of the CM195S F1-85 and outwards, so the dirt leaves by the side it came in on. Lukewarm water with a mild detergent handles greasy films; rinse it out completely. Dry it in air alone — heat is what ends these elements, not mileage — and refit it untreated.
