The line in the price list reads Diavel, all models, and the words promise more than the years beside them deliver. Those years are 2011 to 2018, which is the first Diavel — the one built around the 1198 twin — and not the 1260 that replaced it or the V4 that followed, both of which carry their own part numbers elsewhere in the same catalogue. All models means all of that generation: the Carbon, the Strada, the special editions and the rest. Check the year on the registration document first, and CM13S stops being ambiguous.
Key Features
- Single dry layer of woven polyester, oil-free for its entire life
- Rated at 80 microns with a throughput of 5,050 litres per square metre per second
- Polyester thread from ø 22 microns; the aperture is woven, not pressed out of pulp
- About double the working surface of a usual performance element
- Sits where the paper panel sat — no modification, no remap, ducting untouched
- Regenerated with compressed air and reused; two years of warranty from purchase
What the special editions did not change
A generation with this many variants usually scatters its part numbers, and the single line here is the evidence that the intake was never where the variants differed. Wheels, finishes, bodywork, suspension and equipment separate one Diavel of these years from another; the airbox does not. For an owner that is a quietly useful fact, because it means a consumable question has one answer for the whole family rather than an answer per badge, and it will still have one answer when the next set of names has been forgotten.
The medium, and the honest limit
Dry polyester holds nothing that can travel. Oiled gauze does the opposite by design, and its treatment sits in the airflow just ahead of the sensors that meter this engine; Sprint Filter's comparison puts four-layer oiled cotton at 76.42 per cent retention of 100 micron test particles against 93.13 for the dry weave. Finer media exist for harder air — 14 microns, 7 microns — and each step finer costs flow. None of them is a power part. An element inside an unmodified airbox does not make a standard Diavel quicker; what it offers is an intake restriction that returns to its starting point every time it is cleaned.
Care and cleaning
Blow the element through with an air line held against its clean face, directed outward and not pressed into the weave. When more is needed, hand-warm water and a mild detergent will do it, rinsed until the water is clear. Dry it fully in circulating air with no heat involved at any stage, since heat rather than dirt is what ends the life of polyester, and refit it dry with nothing applied. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
Specified for the Ducati Diavel of model years 2011 to 2018 in all its versions. The same element covers eighteen motorcycles in total, Ducati and Bimota together; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
