The Biggest Production Single

Six hundred and fifty-nine cubic centimetres in one cylinder, making 77.5 horsepower. Ducati built the most powerful road-going single anyone has produced and put it in a supermoto chassis.

Superquadro Mono

The engine takes its architecture from the Panigale's twin, with a 116 millimetre bore and desmodromic valves. It revs to 9.750, which for a single of this size is close to absurd.

A Hundred and Fifty-One Kilograms

Dry, which makes the 698 one of the lightest motorcycles Ducati sells. Everything about the way it behaves follows from that number rather than from the power output.

Throttle Housing Only

The switch block is untouched. This part is the throttle assembly alone, which suits an owner whose electrics are healthy and who wants machined metal at the grip.

Large, Fast Throttle Movements

Supermoto riding involves opening and closing the throttle constantly and quickly. A housing whose bore stays true keeps those inputs precise rather than approximate.

Black Anodised

Converted into the surface. On a motorcycle this minimal, every component on the bar is visible and a restrained finish is generally the better answer.

Ergal 7075

An aerospace grade at roughly twice the yield strength of ordinary machined aluminium. On a bike that will be dropped in a car park at some point, that is a practical rather than a theoretical benefit.

A Single With Two Balancers

Ducati fitted two balance shafts to keep the engine usable at the revs it reaches. Without them a single this large and this quick would be intolerable, and with them it is remarkable.

Ducati Made a Single

The company had not built a road-going single in decades and had no obvious reason to start. It did it because a supermoto works better with one cylinder, and then it made that cylinder the most powerful of its kind anyone sells, which is a very Ducati way to re-enter a category.
