DescriptionThe whole story▼
Yamaha's standard MT-10 silencer weighs 1.7 kg. That is unusually light for a Euro-compliant part, and it means this exhaust is not a weight-saving purchase — the 100 grams it removes will not change how the motorcycle rides. What it changes is how the bike looks and sounds.
Key Features
- Completely new muffler shape, inspired by Akrapovic's work with top-class race teams
- Made entirely of titanium with a carbon fibre end cap
- EC and ECE type approved, plus EPA for the United States
- 1.0 PS more at 9,850 rpm and 1.1 Nm at 2,650 rpm
- 1.6 kg against the standard 1.7 kg
- Approximately 45 minutes to fit
Bought for the Look and the Sound
This page will not pretend otherwise. One horsepower on a 147 PS motorcycle is not something a rider feels, and neither is a hundred grams. Akrapovic's own description leads with the Grand Prix look and the transformation of the bike's character, not with the dyno sheet — and that is the honest reading.
What the MT-10 gains is a silencer shaped like the ones on race machinery, in titanium that will take on colour with heat, in place of a large black standard box.
The Type Approval Is Intact
Both EC and ECE approval are in place, so the exhaust is road legal across Europe without further paperwork. That is worth noting on a part chosen for its appearance: many exhausts that look like this one are track parts. This is not.
Where the Small Gains Sit
The 1.1 Nm arrives at 2,650 rpm — barely above idle on a cross-plane four — and the 1.0 PS at 9,850 rpm, near the limiter. The curve is essentially unchanged in between, which is what a well-designed type-approved slip-on should do: change nothing the rider relies on.
An R1 Engine in a Naked Bike
The MT-10 runs a detuned version of the crossplane R1 motor, and the uneven firing order is the reason it sounds unlike any other four-cylinder roadster. An exhaust on this engine is not adding a voice, it is uncovering one.
That is the practical argument for the part: the standard silencer is doing more muffling than the engine's character deserves, and a type-approved titanium can lets more of it through while staying legal.
Not the 2022 Bike
Yamaha reworked the MT-10 for 2022 with a new frame section, revised electronics and a different exhaust. This silencer covers 2016 to 2021 only; a 2022 or later machine takes S-Y10SO20-HAPLT/1.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y10SO15-HAPT covers the Yamaha MT-10, the MT-10 SP and the American FZ-10 from model year 2016 through 2021. For the revised 2022 MT-10 Akrapovic builds a separate part.
