Ordering by the code rather than by the year removes the guesswork.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhat a loaded element actually does\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eA filter that is quietly closing up does not announce itself. What it produces is a slow rise in intake resistance and, with it, a throttle response a little softer than it was. The dry P08 answers that because it can be restored rather than merely renewed: woven polyester spun from threads of 22 microns and upwards, blown clean with compressed air. Sprint Filter measured a four-layer oiled cotton filter retaining 76.42 per cent of 100-micron test particles against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08 — and unlike oiled gauze, the P08 carries nothing that can end up on a sensor. Finer weaves exist for dust and extremes, the P14 at 14 microns and the T12 at 7, but each costs flow: 5,050 litres per square metre per second for the P08, 1,800 and 560 for the others. That is a trade, not a ranking.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCare and cleaning\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eAir first, water only if the air was not enough: the element is blown through from the clean side outwards, then washed in lukewarm water with a mild detergent when it needs it, rinsed until the water runs clear. Drying is the part people rush — it has to be complete, in open air, and it must never involve heat or a flame. Refit it dry. No oiling step exists.
