Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Triumph Thruxton 1200 TFC (2019–2021) PM217S

The Thruxton TFC was a numbered, short-run Triumph Factory Custom, and machines like this age differently from the rest of the range. They are ridden carefully and not very far, they spend long spells standing in a garage, and their value rests partly on a service history with no gaps in it. None of that is kind to an air filter. A cellulose element takes up moisture while the bike is parked and softens with it, so the part quietly leaves its original condition without a single kilometre being added. The Sprint Filter PM217S does not: dry woven polyester neither absorbs nor swells, and it is washed rather than replaced.

Low mileage is its own kind of wear

Service schedules count kilometres because kilometres are easy to count, but a filter ages according to the air that has passed through it and the conditions it has sat in between rides. A motorcycle used for a few hundred dry kilometres a year and stored the rest of the time reaches its service interval by date, not by load. A washable element is inspected, cleaned and refitted, and the question is settled by looking at it.

Correct in ten years' time

Limited-run machines are eventually judged on what was done to them. This is a standard-fitment element in the standard airbox: nothing is cut, nothing is repositioned, the original cover goes back on and the filter can be swapped for a factory part at any point. And because Sprint Filter design the P08 to last the life of the motorcycle, the PM217S is likely to be the only air filter this bike ever needs.

Care and cleaning

Ten minutes with an air line is the whole routine: from the clean side, blown outwards, and the element is back under the cover. After a hard season, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent instead, rinsing until the water runs clear. Drying is done in open air and only in open air — heat and flame are out — and it is refitted dry. There is nothing to oil, before or after. The Downloads tab holds the maintenance sheet.
