The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
The title of this page says Road and Track, which is an odd label to hang on a 1090 Adventure. It is not a description of the motorcycle. It is Sprint Filter's own name for what the P08 medium is specified to do, and it exists to separate this weave from the others built for the same airbox. Read it as a description of the fabric and the label makes sense.
Key Features
- The general-purpose weave of the range, for sealed roads and circuits alike
- Filtration at 80 microns, passing 5,050 litres through each square metre every second
- Dry polyester, cleaned with air and never treated with oil
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance elements for this box
- Direct fit in the standard airbox, with no modification and no remap
- Two years of warranty from purchase; built to remain serviceable indefinitely
Several media, one box, several labels
Sprint Filter names its media after the conditions they were drawn for rather than by rank. For this airbox the range runs from the PM155S through to a T12 nonwoven at 7 microns which passes 560 litres per square metre each second — a fraction of the flow, a great deal more retention — and, for two machines including this one, an F1-85 racing weave of 22-micron polyester threads passing 15,000. Line them up and you have a scale of trade-offs rather than a scale of quality. A T12 is not a better filter than a P08; it is a filter for a different week.
Which one an 1090 actually wants
The label on the P08 is the honest answer for most of what this bike does: tarmac, gravel roads, the occasional trail, in weather that varies. It is the medium the machine is normally delivered against. The F1-85 also listed for the 1090 is a racing specification, freer flowing at more than twice what this element asks; it earns its keep where flow matters most and the engine has been built to use it, which is not a description of adventure riding. And whichever is fitted, none of them makes a standard 1090 more powerful. The differences lie entirely in what reaches the engine.
Care and cleaning
Take the panel out and blow it through with the jet on the clean face, working outwards; that clears an ordinary load of road dust. For mud and heavy silt, hand-wash in warm water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly and let it dry in moving air, never with heat and never near a flame. Refit only when dry. Sprint Filter's illustrated sheet for the procedure is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the KTM 1090 Adventure and Adventure R, 2016 to 2019. Twelve further KTM and Husqvarna machines run this same element; each appears in the Fitment tab with the years it was built.
