The facts.
DescriptionThe whole story▼
Almost nothing a Hypermotard does is steady. The throttle is either open or shut, the bike is braked hard and driven out hard, and long stretches at a constant load barely happen at all. That duty cycle asks more of an air filter than a top-speed run does, because the resistance a filter puts up rises with the volume being pulled through it. Each snap of the throttle is a demand for a step change in airflow, and a cloth that has silted up over a service interval is at its worst precisely then.
Key Features
- Dry weave throughout — no tacky film, no dressing, nothing that can travel with the airstream
- Somewhere near double the cloth area of other performance filters, all of it available at once
- Filters at 80 µm with a rated throughput of 5,050 l/m²/sec
- A direct swap for the factory panel inside the standard airbox — no remap, no adapter, no bodywork changes
- Regenerated with compressed air and put straight back
- Two years of warranty from the date of sale
Sharpness is the thing you would miss
Nobody bought an 821 Testastretta for a headline output figure; they bought the way it answers. Fuelling is metered to the air that actually arrives, so a choked intake never produces a fault code — it produces a softer edge. The bike feels fine, just less immediate, and because it happens over months the rider quietly adapts. Preventing that is a different claim from making a standard engine stronger, which no drop-in filter does.
City air is the dirtier half
Supermotos spend more time in traffic than their styling suggests, and traffic produces exactly the fine dry particulate that loads a filter without announcing itself. Nor is the loading evenly spread: an element collects most of its dirt in the metres behind a diesel and in the settled grit of a car park, rather than out on an open road. A track day at least tells you it happened. A washable element can be brought back to its original restriction; a paper one only ever gets worse until it is replaced.
Care and cleaning
An air line does the routine work: from the clean face, blowing outward, until the dust stops coming. Twice a year, or after something unpleasant, wash the CM61S by hand in lukewarm water using a mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and give it time to dry in the shade. Nothing hot, nothing burning — the fibres will not survive it. No oil goes near it on reassembly. The manufacturer's service sheet is attached in Downloads.
