Size Chart – Shoei J•O2
| Size | Head circumference (cm) | Head circumference (inch) |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 53–54 cm | 20.9–21.3 in |
| S | 55–56 cm | 21.7–22.0 in |

| XXL | 63–64 cm | 24.8–25.2 in |
The Shoei J•O2 is built on three outer shell sizes (XS–M | L | XL–XXL) for a balanced helmet-to-rider proportion across the full size range.

How to measure your helmet size correctly: To find the right helmet size, measure your head circumference with a flexible tape measure.
It is important that the tape measure runs around the widest part of the head – only then will you get a correct result.
Place the tape measure at the front, about 1–2 cm above the eyebrows, and run it along the sides above the ears.
At the back, the tape must run over the largest part of the back of the head (not too low on the neck). The tape may run slightly at an angle – what matters is that it sits all the way around the largest points of the head.
Make sure the tape measure sits snugly but does not dig in. Measure 2–3 times for the most accurate result. You can then compare the measured value in centimetres (cm) with our size chart.
Tips for an accurate result
- Keep hair flat (e.g. do not measure over a voluminous hairstyle)
- Keep the tape horizontal, i.e. along the largest circumference
- Do not measure too loosely
- For values between two sizes:
→ usually choose the larger size (depending on helmet model / fit)
Important note on fit
The right helmet should fit firmly without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
A new helmet may feel a little tighter at first, as the inner lining adapts slightly over time.

The Shoei J•O2 is the open-face helmet for riders who want the ride unfiltered — the wind, the sound, the smell of warm tarmac. Imitation smooth and nubuck leather trim, an integrated drop-down visor and press studs for a peak give it the look of a genuine classic; underneath sits an AIM shell and full ECE 22.06 certification, so nothing about the safety is nostalgic. Finished in light silver / matt.
Key Features
- Homologated to ECE 22.06, the current European standard, in its open-face category
- AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix) fibreglass shell over a multi-density EPS liner
- Integrated clear visor with a three-position drop limiter and a rounded lower edge that keeps it out of your eyeline
- Double-D ring retention — the classic closure, easy to adjust and consistent every time
- Four outer shell sizes (XS–S | M | L | XL–XXL) for a genuinely slim silhouette
- Press studs at the forehead for the optional Classic, GT or Retro MX peak
- Imitation leather goggle strap loop for classic motorcycle goggles
- Fully removable, washable head, cheek and chin strap pads
- CJ-4 visors available in tints, mirror finishes and a photochromic version
- Approximately 1,150 g — light enough that you notice it on a long day
Shell Construction and Safety
The outer shell is AIM — Advanced Integrated Matrix — a fibreglass composite of several fibre materials. Beneath it sits a polystyrene core assembled from elements of differing absorption characteristics, so impact energy spreads through the structure instead of concentrating at one point. The double-D chin strap is the fastening racers have used for decades: it takes a moment longer than a ratchet, and in exchange it gives the same tension every single time, with nothing to wear out.
What an Open-Face Helmet Does and Does Not Do
The J•O2 has no chin bar. It is certified to ECE 22.06 for open-face helmets, and that category does not include the chin and jaw protection a full-face shell provides — the chin area takes a substantial share of impacts. That is the honest trade you make for the openness, the view and the airflow.
If you ride mostly at speed, or want maximum coverage, a full-face helmet is the more protective choice and we would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong helmet. If you ride in town, on classic machinery or on unhurried country roads and want to feel the ride, the J•O2 is built precisely for that.
Visor and Eye Protection
The integrated clear visor drops into three defined positions, so you can set it fully down, part-way for airflow, or up out of the way. Its lower edge is rounded rather than straight, which keeps it from cutting across your field of view. Visor changes are tool-free.
Please note: the CJ-4 visor is not Pinlock-compatible. Unlike Shoei's full-face visors, no anti-fog insert can be fitted — the photochromic CJ-4 or a tinted version are the ways to adapt to changing light. The imitation leather loop at the back also lets you secure a classic pair of goggles instead.
Ventilation
Ventilation is deliberately discreet, because visible vent hardware would break the clean line of the shell. Air enters and leaves through an integrated system that keeps the interior climate comfortable and cuts humidity in warm weather. On an open-face helmet the largest air intake is, of course, the face opening itself — which is exactly why riders choose this shape in summer.
Fit and Interior
The head pad, cheek pads and chin strap pad come out completely for washing, and Shoei offers them in different thicknesses so the fit can be tuned. Four shell sizes keep the helmet in proportion at every size — on a small head the J•O2 still looks like a compact classic rather than a bowl.
Size Guide
Shoei builds this helmet in four outer shell sizes (XS–S | M | L | XL–XXL), which matters more than it sounds: a helmet scaled from a single shell across the whole range ends up oversized on small heads and thin-walled on large ones. That is a lot of tooling for a helmet at this price, and it is the reason the J•O2 keeps its slim profile across the whole range.
Measure the circumference of your head about a centimetre above the eyebrows, at the widest point, and compare it with the size chart linked on this page. If you fall between two sizes, take the smaller one and fine-tune with thinner cheek pads — a helmet that can be rotated on the head by hand is too big, whatever the tape says. The interior beds in slightly during the first few hours of use, so a new helmet should feel firm but never painful.
Fitment and Compatibility
Visors: CJ-4 — clear, dark smoke, Spectra Silver, Spectra Gold and High Definition Yellow. Peaks: the Classic, GT and Retro MX models attach with the forehead press studs and also fit the Shoei EX-Zero. No communication system is designed into this helmet; there are no dedicated speaker recesses.
What's in the Box
Helmet, Shoei helmet bag for storage, and J•O2 logo stickers. The helmet manual and the "Correct use of your helmet" booklet contain important guidance on use, care and maintenance — worth reading rather than filing.
Accessories Available at Inter-Pace
We stock the genuine Shoei parts for this helmet: CJ-4 visors in five tints, all three peak styles, and replacement interior padding. Cheek and centre pads are available in several thicknesses, so the fit can be adjusted rather than accepted — worth knowing if the helmet is nearly right but presses in one spot.
