Why the Rate Holds
Öhlins manufactures in Upplands Väsby, north of Stockholm, and assembles and tests every unit there before it ships. Materials read unremarkably on paper — aluminium, steel, nitrogen — and the difference lies in how precisely they are made. Rate and the Linkage
A shock absorber spring carries the whole rear of the machine through a linkage that multiplies its rate several times over — which is why the number on the spring looks so much larger than a fork rate. Rear spring rate sets ride height and static sag, and those two decide the chassis attitude before any damping click matters. A spring that has settled in service sits shorter than new, which quietly lowers the bike and steepens the steering.

Öhlins lists no fixed model here — the spring is defined by its measurements, and any fork with matching dimensions can take it. What Fitting Involves
Oil level is measured from the top of the tube with the fork compressed and the spring removed. Torque the fork caps to the manufacturer's figure; the springs change nothing about the assembly torque. Any suspension workshop can fit these; the fork does not need to leave the bike for long.
Road Approval
Road approval: springs are not separately type-approved in Germany because they substitute a part that is already homologated with the fork. Model-specific documents, where they exist, are named above.
