A Hundred and Forty-Five Horsepower
The S carried a higher state of tune than the base 1200 as well as Öhlins suspension and Brembo M50 calipers. Ducati made the distinction mechanical rather than cosmetic.
Plain Faced
No maker's mark on the visible surface. It is the version for an owner who prefers the component to look original rather than aftermarket.
A Trellis From the Heads
The frame bolts to the cylinder heads with the engine carrying structural load. Ducati has used the idea since the 1970s and on a Monster it is styling as much as structure.
Throttle Assembly Only
The switch block stays in place. This covers the housing by itself, which is what most owners actually need.
A Cut Bore
The tube runs in a machined bore rather than a moulded one, which keeps the grip's feel consistent long after an injection-moulded housing has developed play.
One Finish
Black, anodised through the metal. Against gold Öhlins it acknowledges rather than competes, which usually reads better than an approximate match.
Cut From Solid
Ergal 7075 at roughly double the yield strength of the 6000 series used in most machined accessories. It holds a clamping face on a handlebar for the life of the bike.
Ride-by-Wire From the Start
The liquid-cooled Monster used an electronic throttle from its first year, which brought riding modes, traction control and a genuinely useful Urban setting to the model.
Still a Naked
Whatever Ducati added electronically, the Monster remained a handlebar, an engine and a wheel at each end. That simplicity is the reason it has outlasted every rival that tried to complicate it.
