On a sports bike the front wheel throws debris backwards and outwards into exactly this band of bodywork, which is why the lower panels on a three-year-old Panigale look older than the tail does. A carbon panel does not stop that, and a clear-coat finish will pick up the same chips a painted one would.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat changes is the repair. A chipped lacquer edge on carbon can be polished and re-sealed; a chipped painted panel needs colour matching.
