DescriptionThe whole story▼
Leoncino means little lion, and Benelli took the name from its own past when it launched this 500 twin in 2017, even putting a small lion on the front mudguard. The Leoncino 500 mixes retro shapes with modern parts, and its owners tend to care as much about how the bike looks as about how it rides. Small anodised parts are a popular way to make one individual. Accossato lists two caps for this bike, and the FP001 is the one for the engine: an oil filler cap with an M20x1.5 thread, CNC-machined from aluminium, for the Leoncino 500 of 2017 to 2019.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Benelli Leoncino 500, 2017 to 2019
- M20x1.5 thread according to Accossato
- Aluminium machined on CNC equipment, then anodised
- Eight colours: gold, red, orange, green, blue, black, silver, titanium
- Accossato's TS012 rear brake reservoir cap available for the same bike
- Suits other motorcycles with a cap of the same size, once checked
- No German ABE on file; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The FP001 starts as aluminium, is machined to shape on CNC machines and is then anodised; that treatment produces the colour, so it is not a separate coat. Accossato gives the thread as M20x1.5 and states that the cap fits the listed applications as well as other motorcycles with a cap of that size. Eight colours are available for it. The rear brake reservoir cap TS012, which Accossato also lists for the Leoncino 500, comes in seven of them; only titanium is reserved for the oil cap.
A Colour for the Little Lion
Choosing a colour is the pleasant part of the job, but it rewards a little thought. Stand a few steps back from the Leoncino 500 and look at what is already there: the paint of the tank, the colour of the frame, the finish of the wheels and anything you have added yourself. A cap that picks up one of those tones looks as though it belongs, while one that clashes with everything looks like an afterthought. Gold and red tend to suit warm paintwork, and blue or green work as deliberate contrasts. Silver and black stay close to the factory look, and titanium gives the engine a darker metallic accent. If the oil cap and the TS012 rear cap should match, choose from the seven colours they share. Whatever you pick, fitting is quick. With the engine off and cool, clean around the filler, unscrew the old cap, check that the thread and the sealing face are clean, and turn the FP001 in by hand until it seats. Then look at the Leoncino once more from those few steps away. If the cap catches your eye in the right way, you chose well.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's application list the FP001 is given for the Leoncino 500 from 2017 to 2019. Its thread is M20x1.5, and Accossato says it can also be adapted to other motorcycles with the same cap size. Inter-Pace lists the same cap for the BN 302 and the TRK 502 X, and for the Moto Guzzi Griso SE 8V 1200. For the Leoncino 500, Accossato's range also includes the TS012 cap for the rear brake fluid reservoir. If the engine of your bike has been worked on, compare the thread with the original cap before ordering.
Road Approval
No ABE or other test document for the FP001 exists in our files; it is sold here for track and competition use.
