DescriptionThe whole story▼
MV Agusta's Brutale 1090 is an Italian four-cylinder naked bike with sharp styling and a single-sided swingarm. Owners tend to be particular about how the bike looks and sounds, and some are taken aback the first time they hear the front discs rattle faintly as the bike is wheeled around. For the Brutale 1090 of 2010 to 2015, Accossato lists the DKS020, a floating front disc with a 320 mm ring, interchangeable with the original, on a black carrier.

Construction and Material Quality
The DKS020 is a floating disc: a 320 mm friction ring, 5 mm thick, is attached by rivets to a black carrier with an 80 mm centre opening. Accossato states that it is interchangeable with the original equipment disc. The company traces its knowledge of brake discs back to Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3 competition, and it says the tolerances and the clearance between carrier and braking ring were studied in depth. It also names low weight as an advantage for steering and control, and it prints the minimum working thickness on the disc.
Why a Floating Disc Rattles
The small clicking noise that a floating disc can make when the Brutale 1090 is wheeled slowly, or ridden over cobbles without braking, is often mistaken for a fault. Usually it is the opposite. The ring is not rigidly fixed to the carrier; it sits on its rivets with a planned amount of play, so that it can expand when hot and centre itself between the pads without bending the carrier. With the brake released, that play can show itself as a light rattle, and as soon as the pads clamp the ring it disappears.
What is not normal is a clunk under braking, visible movement of the ring in the direction of rotation, rivets worn into an oval shape or cracks around the rivet holes. Check the play by hand with the bike on a stand: a little movement you can feel is fine, looseness you can see is not. Never try to silence the noise with grease or oil around the rivets. Anything slippery near the braking surface ends up on the pads sooner or later, and contaminated pads have to be thrown away.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's list names four versions of the Brutale 1090 for this disc: the RR from 2010, the R from 2012, and the standard 1090 and the Corsa from 2013, all of them up to 2015. The DKS020 replaces one of the two front discs; the price is for one, so two are needed for both sides. The same disc is listed for the MV Agusta Rivale 800.
Road Approval
Neither a German ABE nor a type approval is documented for the DKS020. We supply it for circuit use.
