DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sherco began as a builder of trial bikes, and something of that heritage shows whenever a Sherco SEF 450 is ridden at walking pace through broken ground. In those moments the front brake becomes a balancing tool, holding the bike still on a rock while the rider chooses the next line. Accossato's B8283 takes the place of the stock front brake lever on the SEF 450 from 2015 to 2022. It is CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, and a hinge between base and blade allows the blade to fold forward if the bike topples onto its right side.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Sherco SEF 450, model years 2015 to 2022
- Accossato's application list names the bike SE 450 F
- Fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Shorter blade, drawn by Accossato for three fingers
- Anti-break hinge lets the blade tip forward in a fall
- CNC-machined from a solid block of Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or orange above a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Ergal 7075 ranks among the strongest aluminium alloys in regular use, and Accossato machines the B8283 from a solid billet of it rather than casting it into shape. The CNC work is done in Italy, and the company gives three reasons for the effort: strength, low weight and reliability. The finished lever is made of two parts. A dark base stays on the master cylinder pivot, while the blade, in black, blue or orange, is carried on the hinge that allows it to fold. Because this is a brake lever, the blade is the shorter of Accossato's two off-road shapes and sized for three fingers.
Where the Boot Finds No Ground
Slow, technical going is where a surprising number of enduro falls begin. You come to a halt on a rock shelf or between two roots, the front brake holding the SEF 450 in place, and reach down with a boot. On a hillside or in a gully the ground can be further away than it looked, or it turns out to be a loose stone that rolls away. The bike leans past the point of no return and goes over, often slowly, sometimes with the rider still astride it. Right up to that moment the front brake is squeezed hard, and if the bike falls to the right, the lever is what meets the rock.
A fall like that carries more weight than speed. The 450 four-stroke settles onto the bar end and the lever, and a solid blade pinned against stone tends to bend at the tip or crack near the pivot. The hinge on the B8283 offers the blade another way out: it can swing forward and leave the load to the bar. You fold it back by hand, stand the Sherco up and carry on picking a line through the rocks. Not every fall ends so kindly, and a heavy landing can still damage the lever, but in the slow, heavy drops that technical ground produces, the odds move in your direction.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8283 for the Sherco SEF 450 from 2015 to 2022, where it replaces the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder. In Accossato's catalogue the bike is called SE 450 F; Sherco itself puts the capacity first, as in 450 SEF. For the left side of the bar there is the C7283 folding clutch lever, listed for the same years. Black, blue and orange are offered on both levers, and the clutch lever can also be ordered in red.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on record for the B8283. The SEF 450 is sold as a registered enduro, but with this lever fitted it is not approved for use on public roads; the lever is intended for off-road riding and competition.
