DescriptionThe whole story▼
Loose gravel is one of the trickiest surfaces for a small trail bike. The stones roll under the tyre like ball bearings, and a front brake that would stop a Kawasaki KLX 125 crisply on tarmac can make the front wheel skate sideways on a gravel bend. The KLX 125 is a small four-stroke with road registration and off-road ambitions, and its owners soon learn how gently the front brake wants to be used on loose ground. Accossato offers the B8145 for it, a folding front brake lever for the 2010 to 2016 models, machined in Italy from Ergal 7075.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Kawasaki KLX 125, 2010 to 2016
- Replaces the original lever on the stock front brake master cylinder
- Short blade, sized for three fingers
- Anti-break joint allows the blade to fold forward in a crash
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black or green on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; not approved for public roads, for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
A small bike does not get a lesser lever from Accossato. The B8145 is CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075, the high-strength aluminium alloy the company uses across its off-road levers for strength, low weight and reliability. It consists of a dark base, mounted on the master cylinder pivot where it carries the joint, and a blade in black or green, green being the obvious pick if you want it to echo Kawasaki's familiar colour. The blade is the short brake-side design, meant for three fingers.
Gravel Under the Front Tyre
On gravel, the braking should happen early, in a straight line, with the bike upright. The front brake still does useful work, but the squeeze has to build gradually so the tyre can push the loose stones aside and find the firmer layer underneath. Grab the lever and the front wheel locks, skids across the top and takes the steering with it. In a bend, most of the slowing should already be finished, with the rear brake and the engine trimming the speed and the rider's weight on the outside peg. On a KLX 125 the forces involved are modest, which makes it a forgiving bike on which to learn all this.
Low-speed slides on gravel are common while the feel develops, and they end with the bike on its side and the brake lever scraping over stones. A solid lever tends to break at the tip when it digs in. The joint of the B8145 gives the blade the possibility of folding forward out of the way, so there is a fair chance you can pick the KLX 125 up and carry on. After any fall, look the lever over and test the brake before riding on: gravel is abrasive, and a quick inspection costs nothing.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the B8145 for the Kawasaki KLX 125 from 2010 to 2016, as a replacement for the front brake lever on the bike's original master cylinder. The C7127 folding clutch lever covers the same model years, and both come in black or green, which makes a matched pair straightforward.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8145. Although the KLX 125 carries a number plate, the lever is not approved for public roads; with it fitted, the bike belongs on private off-road ground or in competition.
