DescriptionThe whole story▼
A used CBR1000RR is one of the most accessible ways into superbike ownership, and the Fireblades of 2008 to 2019 change hands in large numbers. Many of them have seen a track day or two, and the controls are where that history tends to show. A clutch lever that is bent, shortened or scraped tells you something about the bike's past, and replacing it is one of the first jobs for a new owner. Accossato's ESY688H is a machined aluminium clutch lever for these bikes, with adjustable reach and three blade lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, 2008 to 2019
- Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Reach to the grip adjustable
- Short, standard (approximately 138 mm) or long blade
- Black hub with a blade in one of seven colours
- CNC-machined, anodised aluminium; fixed blade
- For track use, no German ABE documented
Construction and Material Quality
The ESY688H is made by CNC machining aluminium and anodising the finished lever, which gives the blade its colour and the hub its black finish. The hub carries the pivot and the reach adjustment; the blade is solid and rigidly fixed, without a hinge. Fitted to a used Fireblade, a new lever of this kind removes one of the uncertainties that come with a second-hand bike: whatever the old lever went through, the new one starts out straight and undamaged.
Reading a Used Fireblade's Controls
When you look at a used sports bike, the levers deserve a closer look. A clutch lever with a scraped tip, a bend or an end that has snapped off is a common sign that the bike has been down on its left side at some point, whether in a car park or on a circuit. It does not necessarily mean the bike is bad, but it is a reason to inspect the rest of that side: footpeg, gear lever, fairing mounts, bar end and the engine cover. Once you own the bike, replace a damaged lever rather than living with it. A bent lever sits at the wrong distance, may not return properly and can hide cracks you cannot see. Fitting the ESY688H is also the moment to set the reach to your own hand instead of the previous owner's, to choose a length that suits you, and to check afterwards that the clutch disengages fully and takes up smoothly. On a CBR1000RR that is new to you, it is a small step that makes the bike feel like yours.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESY688H for the CBR1000RR from 2008 to 2019, which covers the generation launched in 2008 and the one introduced for 2017, and it fits at the original clutch mounting. The first CBR1000RR of 2004 to 2007 is not included for the clutch. For the brake side, Accossato's EDF033 is listed from 2004 to 2019.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for the ESY688H, which is why it is sold for track riding.
