The Monster 1200 R of 2016 was the most sporting version of Ducati's big naked bike, and many of its owners know their machines in detail. Even experienced hands can be puzzled by the clutch reservoir, though, because it does not behave like a brake reservoir. Understanding the difference saves unnecessary work and avoids one common mistake. Accossato's FP007 closes that reservoir on the Monster 1200 R of 2016 to 2019; it is milled from aluminium and anodised, with six colours to pick from.

Construction and Material Quality
Silver, black, red, orange, gold and blue are the anodised finishes of this machined aluminium cover. It is shaped around the stock master cylinder of the models on Accossato's list, so fitting it on the Monster 1200 R changes nothing in the hydraulic clutch beyond the lid of the reservoir. It is worth looking at the seal or diaphragm underneath while you are there. If it has become stiff or shows cracks, replace it before the new cover goes on.
A Level That Creeps Upwards
In a brake reservoir the level falls slowly as the pads wear. In the reservoir of a hydraulic clutch it tends to do the opposite: as the friction plates wear, the piston in the slave cylinder is pushed back and fluid returns towards the reservoir, so the level can creep up over the years. On a Monster 1200 R that is no reason for alarm, but it is a reason never to fill the clutch reservoir to the brim, and to leave the correction of a very high level to a workshop. The fluid itself still ages and takes on moisture, so follow the change interval in the owner's manual. When you fit the FP007, bring the reservoir level by moving the bars, protect the tank and any paint nearby with a cloth, and keep the lid off for as short a time as possible. Water, not a dry rag, is what removes a spilled drop. Snug the cover down with light pressure, then operate the lever a few times with the ignition off; take-up should begin exactly where you are used to it.
Fitment and Compatibility
The Monster 1200 R appears on Accossato's list for the FP007 with the years 2016 to 2019, for the master cylinder fitted at the factory. The same cover is catalogued at Inter-Pace for the Monster 1200, the Hypermotard 950 and the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200. For the brake reservoirs of the Monster 1200 R, Accossato offers the TS003 at the front and the TS012 at the rear; six colours are available across all three caps. Check the list against your own bike before you order.
