DescriptionThe whole story▼
BMW launched the S 1000 R in 2014 as the naked sibling of its four-cylinder superbike, with a wide handlebar in place of clip-ons, and plenty of owners have taken it to track days since. What it keeps from the road is an upright riding position. Accossato's FT003 changes one part of that equation. It is an adjustable racing street rearset in aluminium that moves your feet further back than BMW's footrests, made for the S 1000 R from 2014 to 2016 and set up for the standard shift pattern.

- Knurled footpegs and knurled lever tips
- Heel guards made from aluminium plate
- Feet move further back than on the original footrests

Construction and Material Quality
The FT003 is made of aluminium, and Accossato has kept its lines simple. Two details matter once you ride. First, the footpegs and the tips of the gear and brake levers are knurled, a machined texture that gives boot soles something to bite into. Second, the heel guards are plates of aluminium, placed to keep the heel of the boot away from the moving parts behind it. The coloured version brings blue details to a black kit, which suits a bike with blue in its paintwork; the all-black version leaves the colour to the rest of the S 1000 R.
Naked Bar, Rearward Feet
On a naked bike, rearsets alter the riding position in a different way than on a sports bike. With clip-ons the rider already leans forward, and the pegs mainly decide how the legs bend. On the S 1000 R the wide bar keeps your upper body fairly upright, so moving the feet back shifts more of your weight onto the balls of the feet and into the tank. For hard riding on a circuit many riders like the result: the lower body locks onto the bike, and steering inputs come from the legs as much as from the bar. On a long motorway stretch the same position can feel busy, because nothing shields your chest from the wind while your legs are bent further back. Sit on the S 1000 R in a stand in your usual boots and leathers before the first ride, have the rearset adjusted with you on the bike, and decide whether the new position matches the way you use it.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FT003 only for the S 1000 R of 2014 to 2016. From the 2017 model year the naked BMW needs a different kit, the FT052, which Accossato lists for 2017 and 2018 and which also allows a reversed shift pattern. If you are unsure which S 1000 R you have, check its model year before ordering. Fitting belongs in a specialist workshop: the linkages to gearbox and rear brake have to be set up again, and the brake light must respond reliably when you press the pedal.
Road Approval
No German ABE or parts certificate is documented for the FT003. We offer it for track use, not for the S 1000 R on public roads.
