DescriptionThe whole story

The Kawasaki ZX-4R 400 is where a lot of riders first find out what a braking marker is. ZCOO lists the T004 here, cut to 71.5 by 50.0 mm for the Tokico caliper carried by the Kawasaki ZX-4R 400. The mixture in this T004 is EXR: up to twenty percent more force in the second phase of braking.

Key Features

  • Better cold performance and higher thermal stability than the compound it succeeds - fewer laps lost bringing the pad in
  • Backed by the ZCOO 2026 catalogue listing for the Kawasaki ZX-4R 400, 2023 to 2026
  • Country of origin Japan; ZCOO does not source its friction material outside its own plant
  • Consistent lever travel as the pad thins, so the bite point on the ZX-4R 400 does not creep between services
  • Lever feel on the ZX-4R 400 stays linear from the first millimetre of travel to full pressure
  • Resists glazing under sustained pressure, which is what ends most organic pads on a ZX-4R 400

Construction and Material Quality

What sits behind the friction material on a T004 matters as much as the mixture itself. Because the T004 is sintered rather than resin-bonded, there is no binder to cook out at the top of the range. It is also why ZCOO can quote fade resistance beyond 600 degrees for the T004 without qualifying it.

Performance and Feel

The second phase of braking is where a compound either holds or gives up, and that is what ZCOO changed. ZCOO specified a new backing plate alloy for the compound, and on a pad that reaches the top of its window repeatedly the plate is doing structural work throughout. For a rider working on braking technique on a ZX-4R 400, that is exactly what an upgrade should buy.

Fitment and Compatibility

The T004 is ZCOO's listed reference for the Kawasaki ZX-4R 400 between 2023 and 2026. Front axle only; the T004 has no rear counterpart in the ZCOO programme. The same T004 shape covers 18 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 71.5 mm length and 50.0 mm height.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
