Sprint Filter P14 Air Filter for Dusty Conditions – Ducati Scrambler 1100 (2018–2024) PM127P14

The Scrambler 1100 is bought by two different people. One rides it to a café and photographs it there. The other takes the name at face value and points it down whatever surface happens to be in front of them. This element is for the second, and the difference between them is not a matter of taste — it changes which filter medium the motorcycle should be running.

An air-cooled twin in dust

The 1100 is air-cooled, which means it is already living with a wider spread of operating temperatures than a liquid-cooled engine, and it means a rider tends to notice how it is running. Fine dust does two things in that context: it loads the element faster than coarse dust does, because there is more of it per gram, and the part of it that passes a coarse filter goes on into the cylinders. The P14 retains down to 14 microns rather than the 80 of the standard P08 — six times finer — and that is the entire point of fitting it.

Six times finer, a third of the flow

Air flow is 1,800 litres per square metre per second against 5,050 for the P08. That is a real cost and it should be named rather than glossed over: this is a trade, not an upgrade. On a Scrambler ridden at road speeds it is a trade worth making, because the engine is not operating anywhere near the airbox's limit and the dust is real. On a machine that only ever sees clean tarmac, the standard element remains the better match. Both are dry, both are cleaned with compressed air, neither is ever oiled.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards — a non-woven medium releases dust readily and needs nothing else in normal use. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air; never with heat, never with a flame. Refit it dry.
