DescriptionThe whole story▼
Slow riding is harder than fast riding, and a small supermoto like the Kawasaki KLX 150 D-Tracker is a good tool for practising it. Set out a few cones on a closed piece of tarmac or hard ground, ride tight figure-eights at walking pace, and within minutes you discover how much of the work falls to the clutch. For this bike Accossato lists the C7127, a folding clutch lever for the 2016 model year. It is CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075 and has a long blade for four fingers.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the Kawasaki KLX 150 D-Tracker, model year 2016
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mount
- Long blade shaped for four fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward when the bike tips over
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Black or green blade on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for closed-ground and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The C7127 is made the way Accossato makes its off-road levers: CNC-machined in Italy from a solid piece of Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy chosen for strength, low weight and reliability. The lever divides into a dark base, which sits on the pivot of the clutch mount and carries the joint, and a blade in black or green. When the blade is struck, the joint lets it fold forward. On the clutch side the blade is long, with space for four fingers, which leaves plenty of room to work the friction zone with whichever grip you prefer.
Figure-Eights at Walking Pace
The exercise is simple to set up and hard to master. Two cones a few bike lengths apart, a figure-eight around them, the bars at or near full lock. Keep the revs slightly raised and steady, control the speed with the clutch in its friction zone and a light touch of rear brake, and leave the front brake alone, because at full lock it tips the bike into the turn. Look across to the next cone rather than down at the front wheel, and let the bike lean while your body stays upright. On a KLX 150 D-Tracker the low speed and small size make each mistake cheap and each improvement easy to feel.
Cheap, but not free. Sooner or later the clutch goes out too far, the bike lurches, or it stalls at full lock and falls to the inside of the turn. In the left-hand loop of the figure-eight, that puts the clutch lever on the ground with the whole bike leaning on it. The C7127's joint gives the blade the chance of folding forward instead of snapping, so a tip-over at walking pace need not end the session. Riders who practise this way for a few evenings usually find it pays off everywhere else, from tight turns on a track to manoeuvring the KLX 150 D-Tracker through a crowded paddock.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the C7127 for the Kawasaki KLX 150 D-Tracker for a single model year, 2016, and fits it at the original clutch mount. For this bike the range has no matching off-road brake lever, so the C7127 is offered on its own, in black or green.
Road Approval
There is no documented German ABE for the C7127. On a KLX 150 D-Tracker registered for the road, the lever is therefore not approved for public roads; use it on closed ground and off-road.
