Buy a filter for a ten-year-old sports bike and half the decision has been made for you already: forums, club threads and a decade of accumulated experience have settled what people fit. The SRK 800 RR arrived for 2025 and has none of that behind it. There is no consensus to copy, which leaves the published specification as the only honest source — and for this airbox that specification is unusually complete. Three media are catalogued for one shape, each with its own pair of numbers, and reading them in the right order settles the question without waiting for somebody else to go first.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in a single dry layer, 80 microns of filtration
- Rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec, the medium designated for road and track use
- 93.13 % retention on 100-micron test particles, against 76.42 % for four-layer oiled cotton
- Direct replacement in the series airbox of the SRK 800 RR, with no remap
- About twice the filtering surface of a conventional performance element
- Washable and reusable; two-year warranty from the date of purchase
How to read three media without a forum
Aperture first, flow second, and always as a pair. The catalogue offers 14 microns at 1,800 l/m²/sec for dusty use, 85 microns at 15,000 for racing, and this panel at 80 and 5,050 between them. The pattern is consistent and it is a trade: whatever is gained on one figure is paid for on the other. From there the question is not which medium is best but which air the bike breathes, and the one the manufacturer designates for road and track was drawn for the conditions most of these machines will actually see.
What the first owners are deciding
Less than the aftermarket usually implies. A slot-in panel does not make a standard SRK 800 RR noticeably stronger; intake duct, airbox volume, throttle bodies and calibration were approved together, and a change of cloth does not revise them. What is being decided is whether the intake restriction stays a consumable that creeps upward between purchases, or becomes a serviceable item that returns to its starting point whenever you choose. On a machine bought new, that is being decided for the first time, with nothing yet to undo.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air, applied to the clean face and worked outward, handles routine servicing: the load leaves the weave along the path by which it arrived. Where air alone leaves a haze, lukewarm water and a trace of mild detergent will remove it, followed by rinsing until the water runs clean. The panel then dries in ambient air, never with heat — no gun, no radiator, no flame — and the SM266S goes back in dry and untreated. Its maintenance sheet is available from the Downloads tab on this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
