DescriptionThe whole story▼
Eight motorcycles, one silencer. Honda's 471 cc parallel twin runs through the whole middleweight range — the CB500F naked, the CB500X and NX500 adventure bikes, the CB500 Hornet, the CBR500R sportbike and its E-Clutch version, plus the CB400X and CBR400R sold in some markets. All of them share the frame and the exhaust mounting, and this part fits every one.
Key Features
- 2.33 kg against the standard 4.18 kg: 1.85 kg and 44.3 per cent less
- Carbon fibre muffler outer sleeve and end cap
- High-grade stainless steel link pipe and inner muffler structure
- 3.7 Nm more at 6,300 rpm at the largest point of the gain
- Twenty minutes to fit, removable noise insert supplied
- EC and ECE type approved
- Covers eight model designations across the 400 and 500 range
Two Sets of Figures, and Which We Use
Akrapovic's marketing text for this part claims a 48.8 per cent saving, 2 kg. The manufacturer's own technical data for the same part gives 4.18 kg standard and 2.33 kg fitted — 1.85 kg, or 44.3 per cent. The two do not agree, and the text does not even agree with itself: 2 kg out of 4.18 would be 47.8 per cent, not 48.8.
The technical figures are internally consistent, so those are the numbers on this page. A 44.3 per cent saving is worth having without being rounded upward.
Measured on the NX500
The published performance figures were taken on a Honda NX500. That is the adventure-styled member of the family and the heaviest of them, and the same silencer on a CBR500R will behave slightly differently even though the engine is identical.
The weight saving is the same on every one of the eight, because it is the same object. The power and torque figures belong to the NX500 and should be read that way.
Why This Part Is Good Value on a 500
The A2 class is where manufacturers save money, and the standard exhaust shows it: 4.18 kg of double-skinned steel on a motorcycle that weighs around 190 kg. Removing 1.85 kg is close to one per cent of the whole bike, taken from the worst possible position, and it costs less than most parts for larger machines.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-H5SO6-HRC covers the Honda CB400X, CB500 Hornet, CB500F, CB500X, CBR400R, CBR500R, CBR500R E-Clutch and NX500 from model year 2020 through 2026. Check the model designation in your registration document — the range shares a great deal and the names have changed more than once.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union and does not affect an A2 restriction.
