DescriptionThe whole story▼

The slowest corners on a cross-country course are often the hardest: tight uphill switchbacks in the woods, where a Yamaha YZ250FX has to be turned almost on the spot. Those turns are ridden on the clutch, with the engine barely above idle, and they are where most tip-overs happen. Accossato's C7266 is a folding clutch lever for the YZ250FX of 2020 and 2021, CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075. Its long blade leaves room for four fingers, and its joint allows it to fold when the bike falls to the left.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the Yamaha YZ250FX, 2020 and 2021
  • Installed at the original clutch mount
  • Long blade with space for four fingers
  • Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward
  • Machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
  • Black or blue blade on a dark base
  • No German ABE documented; for off-road competition

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato, which won an enduro world title in 1985, builds its off-road levers from Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy it machines from solid in Italy. The aim is a part that is strong, light and dependable. The C7266 has two components, a dark base at the pivot and a black or blue blade, joined by a folding joint. As a clutch lever, it is drawn longer than Accossato's brake lever, with space for four fingers.

Switchbacks at Walking Pace

A tight uphill switchback leaves no room for momentum. The technique is to approach wide, slow right down, look through the turn to the exit and keep the engine turning just above idle while the clutch controls the drive. The rear brake steadies the bike, the inside foot hovers ready to dab, and the clutch is slipped in small, continuous amounts so that the rear tyre never spins. Too much and the bike lurches; too little and the engine stalls, often at the steepest point of the turn.

When it stalls there, the YZ250FX tends to fall to the inside of the turn, and on a left-hand switchback that means the clutch lever meets the hillside. At walking pace the impact is small, but the lever tip is carrying the weight of the whole bike. The C7266's joint gives the blade a chance to fold forward instead of breaking, and if it does, you can swing it back by hand, restart and try again. It is not a promise that every fall ends that way, yet it can make a stalled switchback a nuisance rather than the end of the ride.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the C7266 for the Yamaha YZ250FX in 2020 and 2021 and fits it at the original clutch mount. The B8265 folding brake lever covers the same two model years. For a pair in the same colour, choose black or blue; green is only offered on the brake side.

Road Approval

The C7266 is supplied without a documented German ABE. It is meant for off-road competition and closed terrain, which is where the YZ250FX is at home.

Scope of Delivery
