DescriptionThe whole story▼
From 2016 the Yamaha WR450F was a new machine, built around the rearward-slanted cylinder of the YZ450F motocross bike and aimed squarely at enduro competition. It is a strong 450 four-stroke, and in enduro that strength is only half the story; getting down the other side of a hill under control is the other half. For this generation, 2016 to 2022, Accossato lists the B8265: a front brake lever CNC-machined from Ergal 7075 in Italy, its blade mounted on a joint so it can fold forward instead of breaking in a fall.
Key Features
- Folding CNC brake lever for the Yamaha WR450F, 2016 to 2022
- Takes the place of the stock lever on the original front brake master cylinder
- Short, three-finger blade
- Anti-break joint lets the blade tip forward on impact
- Machined from solid Ergal 7075 aluminium in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or green, base in a dark finish
- No German ABE documented; for off-road and competition use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato won an enduro world title in 1985, so a lever for an enduro bike is familiar ground. The B8265 is cut on CNC machines in Italy from a solid piece of Ergal 7075, chosen for the strength it offers at low weight. Its dark base sits on the pivot in place of the stock lever; its blade, in black, blue or green, is attached by a joint and can fold. The blade is kept short and sized for three fingers, which keeps the rest of the hand on the grip when the bike is bucking down a rough slope.
A Long, Steep Way Down
Enduro routes climb, and what goes up has to come down, often on a steep, loose descent that is harder than the climb. The technique is well known but takes nerve: stand on the pegs, weight back but not too far, arms relaxed, knees gripping the bike, and a gear low enough for the engine to hold the bike back. The rear brake does steady work, while the front brake, applied smoothly and released whenever the front tyre starts to slide, provides most of the stopping. On a big four-stroke like the WR450F, engine braking helps, but the front lever remains the most important control on the way down.
When a descent goes wrong, the front tucks, the bike slides out and it often ends up on its side halfway down, pointing across the slope. If it lands on its right, the brake lever hits the ground with the weight of the bike behind it and the slope adding to the force. The hinge in the B8265 lets the blade rotate forward, giving it a chance to come through intact, and that matters, because the rest of the descent still lies ahead and riding it without a front brake is not an option. The joint is no guarantee against damage, but it improves the odds of reaching the bottom on your own bike.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato ties the B8265 to the second-generation Yamaha WR450F, model years 2016 to 2022, where it replaces the stock lever on the bike's own master cylinder. Earlier WR450F models, 2003 to 2015, take the B8262 instead. The folding C7165 clutch lever covers the whole span from 2003 to 2022 and is made in the same three colours as this brake lever: black, blue and green.
Road Approval
Many WR450F enduro bikes are registered for road use, but fitted with the B8265, which has no documented German ABE, the bike is not approved for public roads. The lever is supplied for off-road use and competition.
