DescriptionThe whole story▼
An adventure bike is at home on an open road, yet much of its life is spent in towns: easing out of a narrow garage, crossing a cobbled square, turning round in a dead-end street. The KTM 1050 Adventure, the road-oriented entry into KTM's big-twin travel range, is tall and substantial, and at walking pace it is balanced with the clutch as much as with the handlebar. The Accossato ESA090 replaces its original clutch lever with a CNC-machined aluminium lever whose reach you can set. Accossato lists it for the 1050 Adventure of 2015 and 2016.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the KTM 1050 Adventure, 2015 and 2016
- Replaces the original lever at the stock clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach for fine clutch control
- Blade lengths short, standard (approximately 138 mm) and long
- Orange, blue, gold and green in every length; silver in two; black and red standard only
- Machined aluminium with anodised finish, black hub
- Fixed one-piece construction
Construction and Material Quality
The ESA090 is produced by CNC machining rather than casting: a cutter follows the outline of the lever in aluminium, leaving clean surfaces and uniform edges. Anodising then hardens and colours the outer layer of the metal. The hub, where the pivot and the reach adjuster sit, turns black, and the blade takes whichever of the seven colours you select. Orange, the colour most people associate with KTM, is one of the four offered in every length. The lever is rigid, a single piece with no hinge between hub and tip.
Tall Bike, Tight Streets
On a tall motorcycle, the awkward moments in town are the slow ones. Stopping at a junction on a cambered road, the foot has further to go before it finds the ground; pulling away again, a stall with the bars turned is the classic way to drop a big bike from a standstill. The clutch is what prevents it. Held in the friction zone, it lets the engine keep the bike moving at a crawl while you steer, and a dab of rear brake trims the speed without any change at the throttle. That kind of control depends on fingers that can make small, steady movements, and small movements come from a relaxed hand. Moving the ESA090 closer to the grip lets the fingers rest on the blade instead of reaching for it. If the pull starts to feel heavy after a long stretch of town traffic on the 1050 Adventure, the long blade adds leverage; it is made in blue, gold, green and orange.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESA090 for the 1050 Adventure in the 2015 and 2016 model years, and it fits at the original clutch mounting. Its brake-side counterpart, the EDB012, is listed only for 2016, so a matching Accossato pair is available for 1050 Adventure bikes of that year, while owners of a 2015 machine can order the clutch lever on its own.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on file for the ESA090, so its intended use is the race track.
