DescriptionThe whole story▼
When the CB650F arrived for 2014, it carried on Honda's tradition of four-cylinder middleweight nakeds, and its smooth, eager engine is what draws many riders to it. That character has a side effect riders notice on their first ride: close the throttle, and the bike slows less than a big twin would. More of the slowing is left to the brakes. The Accossato EDF018 is a machined aluminium brake lever for the original master cylinder of the CB650F of 2014 to 2018, whose distance to the grip you can set.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Honda CB650F, 2014 to 2018
- Fits the original master cylinder
- Adjustable span between blade and grip
- Short, standard and long blades; standard roughly 138 mm
- Seven blade colours on a black anodised hub
- CNC-machined aluminium, no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF018 is produced by CNC machining aluminium and anodising the finished lever. The hub, black on every version, is where the lever pivots and where the distance to the grip is adjusted; the blade, in the colour you choose, is fixed rigidly to the hub. With no hinge in the lever, the force from your fingers reaches the master cylinder directly. On a bike where the brakes do a larger share of the slowing, that directness makes it easier to use them precisely.
Less Engine Braking, More Lever
Engine braking comes from the resistance of the engine when the throttle is closed. Big twins, with their large cylinders, produce a lot of it; a middleweight four, spinning freely with smaller pistons, produces noticeably less. Riders stepping onto a CB650F from a twin often find the bike running on further than expected when they roll off before a bend, and they end up braking later and harder than they intended. The fix is to plan for the brake. Let the throttle close as before, but bring the fingers to the lever early and add a light, steady pressure to replace the engine braking you are missing. That kind of gentle, continuous braking is only comfortable when the lever sits within easy reach. Set the EDF018 so that your fingertips can rest on the blade with the hand still on the grip, and use the standard or short length if you brake with two fingers. After a few rides, the four's freer running becomes part of your rhythm on the CB650F instead of a surprise.
Fitment and Compatibility
The EDF018 fits the CB650F from 2014 to 2018, mounted on the original master cylinder, and Accossato names the ESH065 as the clutch lever for the same bikes. Accossato's list continues for several more years, but Honda replaced the CB650F with the CB650R after the 2018 model year, so this product ends where production did. Short blades are made in blue, gold, green, orange and silver, long blades in blue, gold, green and orange; black and red are standard-length only.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the EDF018; we offer it for racetrack use.
