The only entry still open

Of the three machines carried by this number, the Brivido 300R is the one whose listing has not closed: 2020 to 2026, beside two end dates of 2021. That asymmetry matters for a part sold on the promise of lasting as long as the motorcycle. An element that is cleaned rather than discarded earns its keep across future service intervals, and a model still being catalogued in 2026 has far more of them left to spend than one whose line ended five years earlier. Trofeo and Valico owners get the same panel and the same behaviour; the Brivido owner simply has more road over which it can work.

What the panel is, and what it is not

A dry woven sheet, one layer, set at 80 µm and rated at 5,050 l/m²/sec. Its low resistance comes from area, not from a slackened weave: roughly double the material other performance elements bring, pleated into a housing whose dimensions were fixed years ago. The ceiling deserves the same plain language. Slotting SM257S into a standard 300 will not make it noticeably quicker, because intake, injection and exhaust were signed off as one chain and a panel inside that chain does not rewrite it. What changes is the restriction the filter itself contributes: low at the start, and put back to low at every clean rather than climbing quietly between services.

Care and cleaning

SM257S is serviced rather than thrown away. An air line does most of it: aim at the clean face and blow outward, so the dust leaves by the route it came in instead of being pushed deeper. After a salted winter, lukewarm water and a mild detergent take what air leaves behind; rinse until it runs clear. Drying happens in moving air at room temperature — a radiator, a hot air gun or a flame ruins the cloth in seconds. It goes back dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab.
