Sprint Filter P08 Air Filter for Road & Track – Moto Guzzi MGX-21 (2016–2020) PM01S

The MGX-21 is the strangest thing Moto Guzzi has built in decades — a carbon-bodied bagger on a twenty-one inch front wheel, with the 1380 cc twin half-buried in bodywork. That bodywork is the detail that matters here. Fairings and panniers restrict the air moving around the engine, and an air-cooled motor with less airflow over it runs hotter, particularly at low speed. Heat is what mobilises filter oil. The Sprint Filter P08 PM01S contains none.

Bodywork changes the thermal picture

A naked California has air moving over everything. The MGX-21 does not, and the airbox lives in a warmer place as a result. On an oiled cotton element that is the condition under which the film softens and travels downstream to where the sensors are, and a contaminated sensor does not fail cleanly — it reads low and the fuelling quietly drifts. Dry polyester has no such failure mode; there is simply nothing in the airbox that heat can move.

A short production run, a widely shared part

The MGX-21 was built from 2016 to 2020 in small numbers, which usually means an awkward parts tail. Not here: PM01S is shared with the whole California 1400 range, the Griso and Stelvio lines, both V85 models and Aprilia's V4 family — twenty-seven machines. The element stays in production regardless of how few MGX-21s were made, and because it is cleaned rather than replaced, most owners will never need to order a second one.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry.
