DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Leatt Impact Shorts 3DF 5.0 are positioned by Leatt as maximum impact protection without compromising comfort. They are a close-fitting base layer worn under riding pants, with protection concentrated on the hips and the surrounding area.
At the hips sits ventilated 3DF AirFit impact foam, CE certified to EN 1621-1 at Level 1. Leatt adds padding on the upper hip and on the thighs for extra coverage, and rates the complete shorts with a total Leatt Protection Score of 17 points, a figure from Leatt's own rating system.
Key Features
- CE certified hip protection to EN 1621-1, Level 1

- Anti-odour MoistureCool and AirMesh fabrics
- Wide stretch waistband for a secure hold
- Silicone printed elastic leg cuffs keep the legs from riding up
- Pre-shaped ergonomic 3D fit
- Total Leatt Protection Score of 17 points (manufacturer rating)
Protection & certification
The hip protectors are CE tested and certified as impact protection to EN 1621-1, Level 1, the European standard for limb protectors. The extra pads at the upper hip and the thigh broaden the protected area; Leatt lists the CE certification for the hip. The Protection Score of 17 points is Leatt's in-house way of comparing the coverage and protection of its products and is not part of the EN standard.
Comfort & climate
MoistureCool and AirMesh fabrics are designed to keep you cool during demanding rides and, being anti-odour, to stay fresh. The 3DF AirFit foam itself is ventilated and soft, which is why Leatt pitches these shorts at long days on the bike rather than short laps.
Fit & sizes
The impact shorts come in S, M, L, XL and XXL. A wide, stretchy waistband and silicone-printed elastic leg cuffs keep them in place, and the pre-shaped 3D cut follows the body so the protectors stay where they belong without restricting movement. Leatt does not provide body measurements in the sources available to us; if you are between sizes, contact us and we will help you choose.
Material
Leatt lists the composition as 66 % polyurethane, 17 % polyamide (nylon), 13 % polyester and 4 % other fibres such as elastic and silicone. The shorts weigh 520 g according to Leatt. Plastic-free packaging completes the package.
Where to wear them
Leatt's product data lists the 5.0 shorts for MTB as well as for motocross, enduro and downhill. Because they are a compression layer, they can be combined with whatever riding pants you use in each discipline, and the anti-slip leg cuffs keep them from creeping up whether you are seated or standing.
Construction details
According to Leatt, the compression MoistureCool fabric is joined with flatlock seams, which lie flat against the skin. The breathable mesh panels and the wide elastic waistband complete a build that Leatt describes as durable and flexible enough for aggressive riding.
What you should know
The CE certification covers the hip protectors at Level 1, the base level of EN 1621-1; the upper hip and thigh pads are additional padding. The shorts are an under-layer and do not replace abrasion-resistant riding pants. Leatt supplies a manual and the CE documents for the 5.0 shorts; please read the manual before first use.
Colour
Black is the practical colour for a base layer that nobody sees while you ride: it stays plain under any riding pants and keeps dust and sweat marks inconspicuous between washes.
