DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP EX 001 A answers for the earlier S1000 XR's exhaust valve servo once a system without one is fitted.
Key Features
- BMW S1000 XR (2015–2019)
- Answers for the exhaust valve servo
- No warning on the instrument panel
- Plugs into BMW's own connector
- For a system with no exhaust valve
- Standard servo refits at any time
Which Generation
This part covers the first XR, before the 2020 rebuild. BMW changed the exhaust arrangement with the new frame and the later bikes take a different answer.
A Servo With a Sensor
The motor pulls a butterfly inside the silencer and reports its own position back. That feedback is what the controller checks and what a race system cannot provide.
The Warning It Raises
An actuator fault, logged and shown, returning after every reset until the circuit reads correctly. It is a straightforward problem with a straightforward answer.
The First Crossover
BMW put the S1000 four into a tall chassis with wide bars in 2015, and within five years half the industry had built something similar.
A Hundred and Ninety-Nine Kilograms
Wet, for the first-generation bike, which was heavy enough to be one of the criticisms. The 2020 rebuild addressed it along with the vibration.
Why the Exhaust Goes
Weight, mostly. The standard system on an XR is large and sits high, and a lighter silencer is among the first changes most owners make.
One Connector
BMW's own plug at the servo, with no adapters and nothing spliced.
Keep the Servo
It refits with the standard silencer and is worth money with it. Nothing in this conversion damages either part.
Nothing Coded
No dealer session and no adaptation run afterwards.
Noise Approval
The valve is part of how the motorcycle meets its limit, and removing it changes that whatever the exhaust supplier claims.
Bars That Buzzed
Owners of the earliest crossovers spent a great deal of time discussing what arrived at their hands and feet, and BMW eventually rebuilt the motorcycle around the complaint. It is the one thing everybody mentions about the first generation.
