DescriptionThe whole story▼

Ask riders of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 about their most awkward moment, and many will describe a U-turn on a narrow road. The big supermoto-style V-twin sits tall and has a wide handlebar that makes tight turns look easy, yet at walking pace, with the bars on full lock, a clumsy clutch release or a boot landing on loose grit is enough to lay it down. Accossato makes the PF019 for the Dorsoduro 1200 from 2010 to 2015: two black front axle sliders, one for each side of the front wheel.

Key Features

  • Accossato PF019 front axle sliders for the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200, 2010 to 2015
  • Front fork protection supplied as a left and right pair
  • Aluminium and plastic, black finish
  • Fitting parts including spacers and screws supplied by Accossato
  • Designed to reach the ground first when the bike falls or slides
  • Rear sliders PP011 and crash pads TP052 listed for the same bike
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

Two materials go into the PF019, aluminium and plastic, and the finished protectors are black. You receive two of them, so each side of the front wheel is covered, and the manufacturer states that spacers, screws and all further parts for the installation on the Dorsoduro 1200 are packed with them. The logic of front fork protection is to offer the bike an expendable point of contact. When it falls, the sliders should be first to meet the tarmac, and in taking that contact they can limit the harm to the fork and the axle area.

Turning Round on a Narrow Road

Most U-turn tip-overs come down to the same few mistakes: the rider stares at the ground instead of the exit, the engine stalls, or the front brake is squeezed while the bars are turned. On the Dorsoduro 1200 the seat height makes the last one particularly unforgiving, because a foot that goes down late finds nothing to push against. Practice helps more than anything else. In an empty car park, mark out a turn a little wider than a mountain road and ride it repeatedly at walking pace, with a trace of throttle against light rear brake and your eyes fixed on where you want to end up. Try it in both directions, since most people have a weaker side. On the road, pick a spot with a clean surface and little camber, and turn in two or three moves rather than one ambitious sweep. If the bike still goes over, check the sliders, lever ends and fork before riding on.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the PF019 for the Dorsoduro 1200 from 2010 to 2015, in a single row for the model. If your bike was built outside those years, ask us before ordering. Two further Accossato protection parts are available for the Dorsoduro 1200: the PP011 rear axle sliders and the TP052 crash pads, which can be combined with the PF019 if you want protection at the back and the sides as well.

Road Approval

For these sliders we have neither a German ABE nor other approval papers, so they are supplied for use on the track and in competition.
