DescriptionThe whole story▼
On a supersport machine the second phase of braking is not a footnote, it is the whole craft. The first grab is easy; what separates riders is the long middle, where the brake is being released in small increments while the bike leans and the corner speed is decided. ZCOO's EXR compound, new for 2026, claims up to twenty percent more force in exactly that phase - and pairs it with a new backing plate alloy, which is where a 600 on a circuit finds the rest of the difference.
Key Features
- Up to 20 percent more braking force in the second phase of braking, the phase a supersport rider works in
- New backing plate alloy, specified with the compound rather than inherited from EXC
- Initial bite in the order of EXC Endurance with a more progressive build-up, so trail-braking stays a fine adjustment
- Better cold performance and greater high-temperature stability than the compound it replaces
- Durability equal to or better than EXC - useful on a bike that sees consecutive trackdays
- Same T005 shape as the EX Race pad, 74.45 by 47.0 mm at 8.5 mm; one pack per caliper, two for the CBR's twin discs
Construction and Material Quality
The plate matters more on a four-piston Tokico than the specification sheet suggests. Under sustained pressure a caliper spreads, and the pad's backing plate is the only thing resisting that from the inside; if it flexes, the four pistons stop loading the friction face evenly and the pad develops a taper. ZCOO's new EXR alloy addresses that directly. The friction material itself is still ceramic-sintered and made in Japan by Okada Corporation, on the unchanged T005 geometry.
Performance and Feel
Against EX Race, EXR is the harder-working choice. EX Race is the compound for a rider who wants a flat, forgiving curve and does not need more absolute force than the tyre can use. EXR gives up some of that forgiveness for genuine additional power deep in the zone, and it is the compound ZCOO now points endurance and sprint racers toward. On a CBR 600 RR ridden hard on track, the twenty percent is the difference between running out of brake and running out of tyre.
Fitment and Compatibility
Listed by ZCOO for the Honda CBR 600 RR including the ABS version, 2007 through 2018. The same T005 shape also covers the CBR 1000 RR Fireblade of that era, the CB1000R and the VFR800X Crossrunner. Front axle only. EXR reached the market at the start of September 2026; ZCOO has published no data sheet beyond the characteristics above.
Road Approval
No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
