A Tiger Sport 800 usually does two jobs for the same owner. On weekdays it is transport — short hops, queues, the same soiled urban air twice a day — and at the weekend it is a distance machine with a screen and luggage. Those jobs make opposite demands of an air filter. Commuting wants retention, because that is where the concentration is worst. Touring wants flow, because that is where the engine spends real time asking for it. The SM301T12 answers the first job without hedging: a dry polyester non-woven rated at 7 µm, passing 560 l/m²/sec. Choosing it is therefore less a decision about the motorcycle than about which half of the year you are equipping it for.
Key Features
- Dry polyester non-woven at 7 µm — the finest structure Sprint Filter offers for this airbox
- 560 l/m²/sec: the lowest flow figure in the range, and the honest price of that fineness
- Listed by Sprint Filter for extreme conditions — desert crossings, unsealed roads, standing dust
- Never oiled, and still dry after every wash, so nothing can travel downstream
- About twice the filtering surface of other performance filters, with nothing in the airbox altered
- Reusable across the life of the machine and covered by two years of warranty from purchase
The half of the year this element is for
Think of the weeks that put the worst air through the intake: a fortnight of resurfacing on the commute, a gravel track to a campsite ridden at walking pace inside your own dust, harvest dust hanging over a valley road for days. None of that is a terrain problem, so no amount of ground clearance answers it. It is an air problem, and 7 µm is the answer this catalogue gives to it. If your riding is mostly clean tarmac, the standard element is the right part and this is not.
The half of the year it charges you for
The other side has to be said just as plainly. A finer structure holds more back and lets less through; the two always move together, and no medium in the range escapes it. That is a trade, not a league table. It also means the T12 carries a real cost through every kilometre of clean motorway you ride with it fitted. What it will not do is what no drop-in element does: make a series Tiger Sport 800 noticeably stronger. The gain is a resistance that stays predictable between services, and a part that is cleaned rather than replaced.
Care and cleaning
The routine for the SM301T12 is compressed air on the clean side, directed outwards so the dust leaves by the face it entered. When a trip has really loaded it, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and let it dry in open air. Never use heat or a flame, and never refit it damp. You will find the maintenance sheet under the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Triumph Tiger Sport 800 built in 2025 and 2026. The Trident 800 shares the standard element of this family, but Sprint Filter lists the T12 for the Tiger Sport only — one machine on this part number. Check your model year in the Fitment tab before you order.
