DescriptionThe whole story▼
Öhlins part number 08761-95 is a pair of fork springs rated at 9.5 N/mm, 310 mm long with a 39 mm inner diameter. Spring rate is the single largest variable in how a front end behaves, and it is the one thing no damping adjuster can compensate for.
Key Features
- Öhlins part number 08761-95
- Measured spring rate 9.5 N/mm
- Supplied as a pair
- Inner diameter 39 mm
- Free length 310 mm
- 160 mm of usable stroke
- Straight-wound, constant rate
Why the Rate Holds
Every unit is dyno-tested against the curve held for its part number, not sampled from a batch. Production is Öhlins' own in Sweden, and the tolerance on the rate is what separates these from a generic replacement. Anodising is hard-coat rather than decorative, which matters on a component exposed to road salt and stone chips.
Dimensions
At 310 mm free length and 39 mm inner diameter, this spring is dimensionally interchangeable with anything of the same size — the rate is what makes it a different part.
Choosing 9.5 N/mm
A firm rate keeps the fork high in its stroke under braking, which preserves the geometry when the front is loaded hard. If the suspension bottoms out or the geometry collapses under load, this is the direction to go. Support under braking improves; small-bump comfort gives a little back. Ride quality on the road is decided by rate first and damping second.
Applications
A workshop will pick this spring from its dimensions and the rider's weight, not from a fitment table. Sag figures, not feel, decide whether a rate is right. Öhlins publishes the targets for its own units. This is a service part in the proper sense — it wears, it settles, and replacing it restores what the suspension was designed to do.
Fitting
Once fitted, ride the machine before making damping changes: the new rate alters what the clicks do. Springs are supplied ready to fit; no cutting, grinding or packing is needed. Note the original oil level before draining — it is a useful reference even when Öhlins specifies its own.
Road Approval
Road approval: none is issued for springs as such — they replace an existing component of the same function. Any model-specific approval is listed under Applications.
Fitting and Setup Service
This is not a part to rush. Öhlins recommends installation by an authorised service centre, and we are an authorised Öhlins service centre — fitting, servicing and setup all happen here. Get in touch if you would like the work done with the order.
